WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, AUGUST 4, 1923 MOTORISTS HAND BOOK PUBLISHED Contains Data On Traffic Rules And Tours To Nearby Points DISTRIBUTED FREE North Shore Motor Club Takes Initiative A very interesting and handy pocket size hand book for the convenience of the car owner in Wilmette, Kenil- worth and Glencoe has just been pub- lished by the north suburban branch of the North Shore Motor club, located in the Beake building, at the corner of Sherman avenue and Church street, Evanston, Ill. This book which is known as the 1923 MOTORISTS' HAND BOOK is a 40 page book that answers a real need on the part of the local car owner and is furnished at no cost, since it is distributed free through the courtesy of the North Shore Motor club and a number of representative firms who have accorded it adver- tising support. Digest of Rules The book contains not only a handy, comprehensive digest of traffic regula- tions and license rules for the north shore towns of Evanston, Wilmette, Kenilworth, Winnetka, Glencoe and Highland Park, but it contains also the special regulations and restrictions for each town, together with maps and road guide information to lake resorts and points of interest along the north shore. In the touring section of the book are listed over 40 lakes in northern Illinois with shortest and best road routes, including log, maps, and mil- age to such points as Lake Geneva, Fox Lake, Taylor Lake, Rockford, Crystal Lake, Honey Lake, McCul- lom's Lake, Starved Rock, Dells, Kil- bourn, Dunes Highway, Eagle River, Rhinelander, and the various Cook county Forest preserves. A Real Reference "While care has been taken in com- piling this book," A. W. Stromberg of the Evanston branch of the North Shore club informed this paper, "in summarizing the various regulations, and in presenting the road guide and fesort information, errofs may have crept in or certain data may have been omitted. However, motorists in the north shore towns should find this handy little book a decided help as a guide and reference. Its convenient size, 7Y4x4Y4 permits keeping it in the side pocket of one's car. As re- visions of the book are made from time to time, every effort will be made to have it as accurate and as com- plete as possible." Books Easy to Get Copies of this hand book may be obtained free by calling at the police station, village clerk's office, the Wil- mette State bank, The Lake Shore News, 1222 Central avenue, or at the Evanston office of the North Shore Motor club in the Beake building, near the post office. "Red Bird" Departs From Usual Sport Model Lines A roomier body, wide deep seat cushions, a wheel base of 106 inches and a spring base of 136 inches are features in the new Overland Red Bird that set it apart from the usual so-called sport model. As a matter of fact the Willys-Overland company has radically departed from the stere- otyped design of the speedy, fleet listed touring car by furnishing plenty of room for comfortable riding on ail roads, according to Overland owners. This distinctive quality in this class of automobile is specially emphasized by the lengthened wheel and spring base. The wheel base is 106 inches while the spring base of 136 inches on the celebrated patented triplex springs makes easy riding doubly ap- parent and appealing to those dis- criminating people who want graceful lines concurrent with pleasant, agree- able riding qualities, say Overland dealers. Cadillac Boasts of Long List of Famous Owners The Cadillac has always been known as a distinctive car and it seems to be living up to its name, say local dealers, as they point to the long list of noted people who are users of the famous "eight." Queen Wilhelmina, of Holland, and Prince Kwacho, of Japan, drive Cadil- lac cars that bear a royal coat of arms. Other owners whose names are house- hold words are: Thomas Edison, Hudson Maxim, Gen- eral Pershing, Herbert Hoover, Hiram |shop at Evanston has been instituted. Johnson, Royal S. Copeland, G. Ogden Armour, Cornelius Vanderbilt, Morti- mer I. Schiff, Dr. W. J. Mayo, Dr. Nicholas M. Butler, James Oliver Cur- wood, John D. Rockefeller, Percy A. Rockefeller, J. Pierpont Morgan, King George, of Greece, The Shah of Persia, and King Alphonso, of Spain, who owns 10 Cadillac cars. Fire Drills Train Men At Evanston Auto Shop A fire drill by the employes of the Public Service company's automobile Each man is assigned a particular station to be taken when a fire alarm is given, each with special duties to perform. The men are snapping into the drill with great energv. Two recent acquisitions to the com- pany's automobile fleet are performing work on the big steel tower transmission line building from the new generating station at Waukegan down to Evanston. Each is a Fordson tractor hauling a 2%-ton semi-trailer. This pair of trans- portation units, which travel over any kind of ground, have the job of hauling in a total of about 150 tons of material for the line.
