Tippet Wednesday "MONG the affairs given recently for Miss Isabel Case, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Warren Case, of Hubbard Woods, who marriage to Charles Jerome Tippet, son of Rev. and Mrs. J. H. Tippet, of Appleton, Wis., will occur on Wednesday of next week, was a supper party given by Mrs! Morris L. Greeley and the Misses Greeley, on Sunday evening, September 16, and a luncheon given by Mrs. Arthur T. Tuttle, at her residence, 699 Walden road, on Thursday. Mrs. William A. Otis and Miss Louise Otis were hostesses at a kitchen and tea shower for Miss Case yesterday afternoon. The bridegroom's father will read the marriage service in the presence of the families at eleven o'clock in the morn- ing at the residence of the bride's parents. Miss Marian Case will be her sister's only attendant. Mr. and Mrs. Tippet will reside at 907 George street, Chicago, after October 1. --_---- North Shore alumnae and friends of the School of Speech and the School of Music at Northwestern university will be vitally interested in the formal open- ing of the Chocolate Shop in the Orring- ton hotel today. Although the new dishes which have been imported by Fields' especially for the shop, have not arrived, the shop has been so attractively decorated, and most of the general details completed that the sponsors are anxious to open for business. Proceeds are. to be used for the two Schools. North Shore patronesses include Mrs. Mark Cresap and Miss Isabel Lovedale of Kenilworth and Mrs. George Dalgety of Wilmette. Other alumnae who plan to give their assistance and support to this new venture are Mrs. Max Reuhl of Winnetka, Mrs. Charles Heckler of Wilmette, Miss Clementine Eastman of Wilmette, Mrs. J. G. Barber of Evans- ton, MissBeatrice Pease of Kenilworth, Mrs. Gilbert Stansell of Wilmette, Mrs. C. Pearl Ward, Mrs. Clara Irwin Hoyt and Mrs. Dan W. Allen of Winnetka. Substantial interest has been shown this week in the exhibit of foreign pic- tures at Carson Pirie Scott galleries done by Mrs Anita Burnham during her travels abroad a year or so ago. A number of her drawings have been sold and there are a number more now under consideration, which have been reserved for 'various prdspective buyers. The exhibition has attracted no little atten- tion, not only from the painters' friends but from the entire north shore. Many artists have been attracted because of the novelty of its information; the in- dividuality and quaintness in the fram- ing and hanging of these lovely land- scapes. Artists praise the pictures for their technical excellence and the ex- hibition is to be drawn on for examples which will be sent out of the city in traveling exhibitions. Carson Pierie's has been exceedingly gratified with the response to this un- usual display of drawings. The exhibit will continue throughout the coming week and folks who have not thus far hand an opportunity to wander through the gallery are urged to take advantage of any spare time during the next week. i Mrs. Delbert W. Mas- sey, have returned from a three months' stay in Los Angeles and Hollywood, and are temporarily located at the home of Mrs. George Slocum in Wilmette. ---- Mrs. D. C. Macintyre and two chil- dren, 822 Humboldt avenue, returned Saturday from a two months' sojourn in the wilds of northern Wisconsin. Miss Porter was for thirty-five years a Missionary under the American Board, in Pekin, China. Dur- ing their visit, their nephew, Prof. Lucius C. Porter, and his family, were also guests at the Goble home. Prof. Porter is Dean of the Union College at Pekin. He is at present Head of the Department of Chinese at Columbia University, dur- ing his furlough. Mr. James W. Porter and Miss Porter have left for San Fran- cisco to attend a Missionary Conference and Prof. Porter and his family are on their way to New York. ---- "Answers to the Riddle of Life" as compiled by classics, poets and sages from the stoic Emperor Marcus Aurel- ius down to our own American Emerson, inclusive of St. Augustine, Goethe's Faust and Tolstoy, are the subjects of some very interesting lectures to be given by Mrs. Albert Loth, who has just come from St. Louis, where she has com- pleted a course of similar lectures, aud will later depart to her home in New York city. The series opened Wednes- day morning in the home of Mrs. Al- fred Alschuler in Winnetka and will be continued weekly. rep Mrs. William Odgen Coleman and Mrs. Dorr Price have issued invitations for a series of two bridge and tea par- ties to be given during the coming week.
