WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 10, 1923 AUTO CLUB WANTS DRIVE WIDENING Resolutions Sent to Park Commissioners A movement to prevail upon the Lincoln Park commissioners to widen Sheridan road from Grace street north to Foster avenue, Chicago, has just been started by the Illinois Automo- bile club of Chicago. The first step takes the form of a set of resolutions addressed to the Board of Commissioners of Lincoln Park and sets forth the great aid which has been given traffic by the widening of Michigan avenue on the south side of Chicago. Big Aid to Traffic The board is called upon to widen Sheridan road seven feet on each side by the removal of certain plots of grass and trees. [It is believed that every motorist who uses the great north and south traffic artery will be benefited by the widening of that thoroughfare. The resolutions, as adopted by the Illinois Automobile club, and pre- sented to the Lincoln Park commis- stoners, follow: The Resolutions October 24, 1923. Lincoln Park Board of Commissioners, Clark and Center Streets, Chicago, Illinois. - Gentlemen :-- At a meeting of the Board of Di- rectors of the Illinois Automobile Club, held on October 23rd, 1923, the following resolution was introduced and unanimously carried: "Whereas, by virtue of the in- creased number of automobiles on our city streets, a congestion has been created on Sheridan road from Grace street north to Foster avenue. And, whereas, there is on each side of Sheridan road, along this route, grass plots and trees beyond the sidewalk line, which, although beautiful, are not fitting to any busi- ness section such as Sheridan road has become along this route. And, whereas, a similar condition which. existed on the South Side of Chicago, on Michigan avenue, has been relieved by certain acts of the South Park Commissioners, viz., in the widening of said Michigan ave- nue, by increasing the width of the street and decreasing the distance of the curb line from the building line. And, whereas, the numerous bus- ses operating on Sheridan 'road, which, of necessity, have to stop at crossings to take on and discharge passengers has added to a conges- tion. Be it Resolved, that we, the di- rectors of the Illinois Automobile Club, respectfully request the Com- missioners of the Lincoln Park Board of Commissioners, to take up for their consideration and approval, as soon as expedient, the matter of widening Sheridan road seven feet on each side of the street from Grace street, north to Foster avenue, for the express purpose of relieving this created congestion and carrying on their good work of providing better road conditions for the motorists on the North side of the city. And, be it resolved, that the Chair- man appoint a committee to prop- Lincoln Park Board of Commis- sioners for their consideration and approval." The Chairman of the Board of Di- rectors appointed Harry P. Branstet- ter as Chairman of the Committee to present these resolutions to the Lin- coln Park Board of Commissioners for their consideration and approval. Very truly yours, Illinois Automobile Club.
