4 WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 17, 1923 FOOD SALE AT SKOKIE NOV. 22 Girls Prepare a Variety of Foodstuffs | The Winnetka Skokié School Do- mestic laboratory plans to have its annual fall Food Sale on Thursday, November 22, at 3 o'clock. About this time last year the labora- tory had its first sale. The original motive was to raise much needed funds for equipment in the depart- ment. But after planning and develop- ing the work, it proved to be a real opportunity to show the parents and the community what the girls were accomplishing in their food 'classes. As a result of this there were three sales arranged for the year. The classes formed in September have been anxiously awaiting the day set for their sale. Diligently have they been working to perfect the ex- pected failures of the inexperienced cook! When fresh fruits were avail- able several weeks were spent in canning, pickling and preserving. If you failed to put up peaches or pears, the Skokie girls will be glad to help out. Or if you have no orange mar- malade, ginger pear chips, or plum conserve, the girls are featuring these. There will also be cup cakes of many varieties, and a few layer cakes. Two of the specialties will be nut bread and ham and veal loaf. Salads will be sold and of course--candies. Many of the recipes which have be- come popular in the Skokie lunch room and others which have been carefully tried out and tested in the laboratory have been printed and will be for sale in attractive envelopes. They are just the thing for a Christ- mas greeting. Science i Ca ih DR. MELVIN B. HASBROUCK having been associated with the ! late Dr. John L.
