The women who made the special visit to Chicago Commons on Monday saw at first hand one of the great centers that need the active co-operation of Winnetka wom- en, During the sewing hour Mrs. George D. Frazer will sing these songs: "I Love Thee," by Greig, "A Little Wind- ing Road," by Ronald, and "Robin, Robin, Sing Me a Song," by Spross. Mrs. James O. Ely will lead the devo- tional service. Newcomers in the village are especially invited to enjoy this op- portunity to become acquainted. Luncheon will be served at twelve- fifteen in the gymnasium. Immediately following this, Frederick E. Clerk, prin- cipal of New Trier Township High school, will speak on the subject: "What Is Happening In Our Schools." Every woman, whether she has children in the local schools or not, will welcome this chance to learn from our new leader of his hopes and plans for this important feature of our community life. -- Mrs. Elis Soukup of 599 Fir street, gave a party last Sunday afternoon in the honor of the 16th birthday of her daughter Blanche. Many friends and relatives present on this happy occasion. --O-- were Those cold weather garments The Northwestern University Wom- an's Glee club assisted by Mrs. Norman Parker, violinist, and Charles Lutton, baritone, as soloists, will appear in con- cert next Friday evening, December 7. Heretofore the concerts have been the result of the combined efforts of the Men's and Girls' Glee clubs, but this i year the women are doing it all by them- selves. Mrs. Parker is a professional and is well known on the north shore, while Mr. Lutton has appeared on many Women's club and New Trier pro- grams. The director is Mrs. Bowman, a member of the Music school faculty, at the university. The accompanist is Miss Eleanor Marks of Glencoe. Rm. , WE Announcement is made of the engage- ment of Miss Dorothy Butler of Glen- coe and Mr. Lewis Galantiere. Miss Butler, who is in Kurope with her mother, Mrs. Alice C. Butler, will be married in Paris in June and will con- tinue to live there two or three years. ee Pi Beta Phi sorority, Northwestern university, will hold its annual card party Friday, December 7, at 2 o'clock, in the ballroom of the Orrington hotel, for the organization's house, which is to be a unit in the group of women's buildings at Northwestern university. --O-- Mrs. Lorenzo Johnson will give a holiday dance at her home, 711 Sher- iden road, on Thursday, December 29, for her grandchildren, Helen and Ray- mond Hardenbergh; Loren and George Massey; Ayres, Jr., Stewart and Tom Boal. ---- Mrs. H. W. Pettigrew, and her sister, Miss J. E. Edwards, 428 Linden ave- nue, spent Thanksgiving at the home of Perhaps the most brilliant and most talked of affair on the social calendar for early December, is the Eli Bates settlement benefit performance of "Chauve Souris" to be given at the Gar- rick theater on December 17. Tuttle, and Arthur Woodward. Coe Mr. Francis K. Cooke, 347 Forest avenue, who have been in the Ozarks on a hunting trip for the past three weeks, expects to stay two weeks more. It might be of interest to the sports- men of Winnetka to know that Mr. Cooke writes home that there has never been such a season for quail, and that in nine days he got ninety-six birds. Ons The Suburban Neighborly club will have its monthly dinner-dance this eve- ning at the Winnetka Woman's club. The Columbia School of Music held a recital at the Woman's club Friday, under the auspices of Miss Air. --O-- Mr. Victor Eckart, 411 Linden street, left Friday for Kankakee to spend a few days at the home of his aunt, Mrs. Commer.
