WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, MARCH 22, 1924 LAUNCH FIGHT IN ANNUAL TOWN BALLOT (Continued from page 1) Want Greater Efficiency The Good Government league, on the other hand, while indorsing the candidacy of two incumbents, feels keenly the necessity for a change of stewardship in the other offices. Citizens sponsoring this ticket want to see "new blood" in the offices of asses- sor, collector, highway commissioner and constable. They heartily endorse the candidacies of Gertrude M. Thur- ston (incumbent) for township super- visor, and of Margaret S. Pierson (incumbent) for township clerk. Certain definite planks have been nailed into the platform of the Good Government league stressing the nec- essity of economy in the conduct of township affairs, equality in taxation, lower taxes, service and courtesy to the people in doing the most amount of work for the least amount of money expended, or, a maximum of work at a minimum of expense, and efficiency in all offices of the township. The league asks the voter to ballot "for this ticket in order to secure your rights." Good Government Ticket The Good Government ticket in- cludes : For Supervisor No Candidate. For Clerk No Candidate. Tor Assessor John J. Peters For Collector George H. Miller For Highway Commiss'oner Nathaniel F. Webb For Constable Lewis C. Conrad Citizen~ League Ticket Aligned against that ticket is the Citizens ticket as follows: For Supervicor Gertrude M. Thurston (incumbent) For Clerk Margaret S. Pierson For Assessor George R. Harbaugh (incumbent) For Collector Sanborn Hale For Highway Commissioner Herbert H. Sherer (incumbent) For Constable Edward J. Mau For School Trustee Charles W. Hubbard. Only a short time remains before election day but the fight is on and promises interest right up to the count of the last ballot. (incumbent) Mrs. Henry Peirce Pope of Glencoe, will entertain about thirty guests at bridge on Saturday evening, March 29, in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Franklin deBeers who are leaving Glencoe to make their home in California. --_--O-- Mr. and Mrs. Arthur F. Otto Schildberg Mendota, III. COLLECT $750,000 IN NEW TRIER TOWN TAXES The largest collection of taxes ever recorded in New Trier township was completed this week when Collector Hoyt King announced the total as $750.000. This year's figure is larger by $120,- 000 than that of last spring and is a remarkable tribute to the promptness of the New Trier taxpayers, since the tax books, because of unavoidable de- lay in the county offices, were in the hands of the collector for a period of only about ten days. The showing in the township is particularly gratifying in view of the fact that taxes paid to the local col- lector are immediately available for the various departments, while after the collections are transferred to the county collector's office, the money is no longer available for immediate use until settlements can be adjusted and prorated to the separate divisions. This causes a delay and adds to the expense of collections, besides deprivy- ing the community of the use of inter- est accrued on money credited to the township. Mrs. Howard Fenton of Bryant ave- nue, who has been in Europe since Janu- ary, expects to return to Winnetka in about a month. --Q-- The Winnetka Temple club had its monthly meeting, card-party, and dance, at the Masonic Temple, Tuesday eve- ning.
