aa PRE WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, APRIL 19, 1924 SCHOOL PLANS LIGHT OPERA Mrs. Marian V. Cotton to Be Director The Music department of New Trier High school will present "Robin Hood," a light opera by Reginald De Koven, in the high school auditorium Friday, and Saturday evenings, May 2 and 3, at 8 o'clock. The production of "Robin Hood" is under the direc- tion of Mrs. Marian V. Cotton, super- visor of music at the high school, whose vision it was that conceived the annual series of Little Symphony orchestral concerts now enjoyed by the north shore community. Mrs. Cotton has assembled all 'the resources of the school, and, in three instances, has gone outside of the school to secure the best direction and talent for the opera. The cast of "Robin Hood" consists entirely of students, assisted by two alumni. Great care was used by Mrs. Cotton in choosing the cast so that only the voices best suited for the parts were selected. Talent From School . Among the several organizations in- volved in producing "Robin Hood" is the New Trier Symphony orchestra which, more than anything else, has made its director known throughout the township. The orchestra, with Miss Suzanna Armstrong, its assist- ant director, at the piano, will accom- pany the songs of the principals and of the choruses. The chorus parts will be taken by the Boy's and Girls' Glee clubs, acting as Robin Hood's Merry Men. There will also be a spe- cial group of dancing girls. Assisting Mrs. Cotton in the direc- tion of "Robin Hood" are Miss Elis- abeth Stanwood, dramatic director, Miss Olive IL. Grover, in charge of de- signing and painting the scenery, and "Jimmy" Griffin of Northwestern, formerly a professional dancer at the Edgewater Beach hotel and now a student in the University School of Speech, director of stage-formations and dancing. All Seats Reserved The presentation of "Robin Hood" is strongly supported by the entire high school, and particularly by the Student Council and the Hi-Y. All seats for both the Friday and Saturday performances will be re- served. WILLETT SPEAKS ATSUNDAY CLUB Noted Bible Lecturer Here Easter Sunday Dr. Herbert I. Willett of the Uni- versity of Chicago, and one of the lead- ing figures in the United States in church and social service work, will ad- dress the Wilmette Sunday Evening club on the evening of Easter Sunday, April 20. While Dr. Willett's subject has not been announced, it is certain to be time- ly and of vital interest to every Sun- day club patron. He is considered probably the most popular Bible lecturer in America and is a convincing and fascinating speaker. His lectures are entirely undenominational and of a nature to provide instruction and inter- est for every church worker. He has gained wide popularity in England and on the Continent and his lecture entitled "New Continents" has won for him world-wide recognition as a keen thinker. Of Dr. Willett it has been said; "He is a captivating speaker of splendid ap- pearance, who uses eloquent diction and is never at a loss for the right word to round out his forceful sentences. He is one of the advanced thinkers of the age and a lecturer without a superior in the whole of America." Because of dedication ceremonies to take place at the Wilmette Baptist church this Sunday evening, the services of the Sunday Evening club will begin promptly at 7 o'clock, instead of at 7:30 o'clock, the usual hour.
