The girls are to be in ceremon- ial dress and will be in a large circle in the gymnasium around a real camp re. Noted Leader Guest Miss Edith M. Kempthorne, National field secretary, is to be the guest of hon- or and will give the Council Talk. She is stopping in Winnetka, on her way west, especially to be present at this council fire. Richardson of the department of religious education of Northwestern university, will bring his class of young women who have been studying Camp Fire methods with him, and they will receive their guardian's certificates from Miss Kempthorne. The Camp Fire program stands for the home and out-of-doors. It stimu- lates the girls to do the things of the home craft, health-craft, business craft, patriotism, . nature-craft, hand-craft. Its milestones are three ranks--Wood gath- erer, Fire Maker, Torch bearer--each increasingly difficult to win. Its watch- word is "Wio-he-lo;" the first two letters of Kork, Health, Love. It counts in its membership many hundreds of thou- sands of girls all over the world. 100 Active Members Over a hundred Winnetka girls are active members of this organization and the program they will put on on the 29 is typical of what is being done in many Camp Fires. The Camp Fire Girls wish 'to have present all who are especially interested and any not already reached are asked to communicate with Mrs. Wortley, Winnetka executive of Camp Fire, at Community House. Alleged Bogus Checker Sought By Local Police Edward Paul Wetzel, until recently proprietor of a taxi business in Win- netka, is being sought by the local po- lice on a charge of having obtained ap- proximately $1,000 from Winnetka mer- chants by means of alleged promiscuous distribution of bogus checks during the past six months. Wetzel made a hasty exit from the village early this week when it became apparent that his alleged {fraudulent practices had reached the ears of the local police, who, armed with a state warrant, have instituted a nation-wide search for the erstwhile cabby. Wetzel came to Winnetka about six months ago, according to the police, and at once established a "checking account" in one of the local banks. He proceeded, then, to win the confidence of several merchants, it was said, with the result that they were relieved of sums aggre- gating $1,000. Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Krieg, 892 Ash street, are being congratulated upon the birth of a son last Saturday morn- ing. Council Launches Fight On Mosquito Nuisance The village council Tuesday of this week voted to adopt the recommendation of Dr. H. W. Moore, assistant surgeon for the Chicago North Western railway and a resident of Winnetka, for a cam- paign to exterminate the obstreperous mosquito. ; In accordance with Dr. Moore's plan the village will be divided into districts, with captains in charge of the individual sections. Dr. Moore was appointed chairman of a special committee to handle the cam- paign and which will comprise repre- sentatives of the various local improve- ment associations. Mrs. Mary A. Lang- worthy, chairman of the health and safety committee of the council, will re- present that body on the committee. By virtue of this comprehensive or- gdnization it is confidently expected that the source of mosquito breeding in the village will be eliminated.
