One boy, for example, was presented with a spade because he had been the best "ditcher," while another was given a framed photograph of John Tyndall, the father of modern chemistry, because of his "fondness" for that subject. A four-act vaudeville performance, followed by a matinee dance in the lunch hall, brought the afternoon to a close. In spite of certain unforseen complications which took place, the students acclaimed this undertaking as a success and look forward to a similar program in future years. Local Coal Dealers at West Virginia Session E. C. Weissenberg and B. W. Blow of the E. C. Weissenberg Coal company returned early this week from Bluefield, West Virginia, where they attended the National Coal Retailers' convention, June 4, 5 and 6. There were a number of prominent speakers at the convention who em- phasized the importance of coal as a necessary fuel for railroads, and other industries. They also surveyed the coal conditions for the coming year. Their expectations are that there will be a sufficient coal supply if there is no miners' strike. The miners' unions are very powerful in the coal fields in West Virginia, ac- cording to Mr. Weissenberg. He men- tioned one case where some 8,000 miners went on strike because one of the men left his union button at home and was allowed to work without it. ORGANIZE DEBATE CLUB The already large number of student clubs at New Trier High school has been augmented by the formation of the Debating society, which consists of the twelve members of this season's debate teams. Robert Drake was chosen as the first president. WHEN A MAN ARGUES WITH HIS WIFE THE BEST HE CAN GET IS THE WORST OF IT! Well, I must run along, Careful.
