WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, JUNE 21, 1924 WINNETKA WILL CELEBRATE 4TH Committees Plan Numerous Events for Village's Big Annual ATHLETICS A FEATURE Schedule Relay Races for Boys of Community Every year Winnetka has a fine Fourth of July celebration, and this year the committee is planning for its thirty- seventh observance of the birth of the nation. The outstanding feature of these annual celebrations has been that each year the program has been the same. This repetition has made the event quite a custom and tradition. "We are anticipating a larger crowd | this year than ever before to take part in' the various activities," said S. Edwin Farle, general chairman of the day; "last year we ran out of flags for the children's parade, but we can assure each one that there will be plenty of flags this year. With the Chamber of Commerce band, we are sure that all will have a wonderful time." r Arrange Band Program - During the past year a band was or- ganized, and has been operating under the auspices of the Winnetka Chamber of Commerce. They appeared at the Memorial Day exercises on the village green, and will repeat their appearace on the Fourth of July, with even a larg- er number of men. Their program will continue during the afternoon and eve- ning and will be followed by dance mus- ic on Cedar street,--the same as in past years. For the athletic contests during the afternoon--one of the relay races has been eliminated. There will be two re- lay races--one for boys of fourteen and under, each running half a lap, and one for boys of fifteen and over, each run- ning a full lap. The prizes will be on exhibition in Lee Adams' drug store a few ays before the celebration. Commitiees for Event The g€6mmittee chairmen who have worked out the details of this celebra- tion are as follows: S. Edwin Earle, general chairman. Myron E. Adams, assistant general chairman. ' H. RIDING CLUB TO REMODEL BARN Has Extensive Plans for Indian Hill Tract The rapid growth of the riding club, now numbering nearly one hundred members, has emphasized the need of a club stable. To purchase land and build a suitable stable would cost between $40,000 and $50,000 and the directors do not feel that the time has yet come to incur such an expense, so the governors of Indian Hill have given the riding club permission to remodel the club barn just outh of the 13th green. Work is under way and the remodeled building will be ready to receive twenty horses by July 1. In addition to the stable, the riding club has already planted shrubs around the old buildings and laid out an oval for children to use before they can be trusted to ride alone over the system of bridal paths. In addition to these improvements the club has a program for further addi- tions to the group of old Indian club buildings.
