WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, JUNE 21, 1924 3 NURSERY HOLDS PUPILS' EXHIBIT School Adopts Principles of Dewey Philosophy The Community Nursery school, 'lo- cated at 966 Hubbard lane, Hubbard Woods, gave an exhibition of its pupils' work on Sunday, June 1. This exhibi- tion showed the results of the children's work in nature study, geography, hand- crafts, arithmetic and carpentry. The exercises also comprised a demonstra- tion of what they had learned in music, rhythm and dramatics, as well as in French and English. This group whose work was shown has been in the Community Nursery school from the time that its individual members were two and a half years of age and three and a half. This school was established three years ago by Carmelita Hinton and Corinne Fitzpatrick, the latter having been for the past year director in charge of the school. The aim of the school is to take the young child into a small group meeting in a home and there give him an opportunity to work and play in a social way with the materials and tools suited to his age. The principles of the school are drawn almost entirely from the philosophy of John Dewey, one of the world's foremost authorities in pedagogy. Frank Carpenter Dies; Has Son In Kenilworth Frank A.
