Dawes, Republican candidate for vice president, August 19, the Evanston Citizens' committee in honor of Gen- eral Dawes' notification announced this week. Contracts have been closed with the Home Decorating company of Chicago, one of the largest decoration contrac- tors in the country, for decorations for the main business districts and the greater part of the east side near and leading up to the Dawes home, where the exercises will take place. CAMP LIFE GETS HOLD ON BOYS, THIS PROVES Yesterday morning a strange look- ing individual, badly in need of a hair- cut, walked down Michigan boulevard gawking at the S. O. S. signs on the autos and buses. He seemed sort of dazzled by being in the city again. Two women walked just ahead of him. "Pick up that paper, Madam," he ordered, "we must keep this camp clean. Now, look around and see if you can't find fifty more pieces." Farther down the street the young man saw a mob trying to cross the boulevard. "Fall in line," he yelled, "one at a time." As he crossed the river he began frantically waving his hands. A policeman rushed up and asked him what was the matter. "Why," he explained, "that man didn't have permission to take out that boat." Farther down the street he entered a department store which was just opening. The crowd was loud and noisy. The young man reached into his shirt pocket and drew forth some- thing bright and shiny. He blew it. The crowd stopped talking to stare at him. "We will have it quiet in here please." As the young man picked himself up from the street he yelled, "Tent one, report!" In his delirium at the hospital he keeps moaning in- coherently "Time for reveille--where's the bugler? O. D. report! Pass the soup. Oh, it ain 't gonna rain no more, Later the young man was identified as a leader just returned from Central Muskegon, Mich. North shore Boy Scouts are encamped there. Dilks to Build $40,000 Residence in Kenilworth A building permit has been author- ized to be issued by the Village of Kenilworth to L. C. Dilks to build a home at 227 Sheridan road. It is estimated that the cost of construction will be about $40,000. Mr. Dilks recently purchased the plot of land on which the dwelling is to be erected from Walter O. Birk, president of the Birk Candy company. With the exception of a 200 foot piece of land on the south of the Dilks' new estate, the purchase of this land re- moves from the market the available land on the east side of Sheridan road in Kenilworth. Illuminate Premises At the corner of Greenwood boule- vard and Forest avenue a special electrical and decorative display is be- ing planned, details of which will be announced later. = Thence on Green- wood to the Dawes home on Lake Shore drive to the street will be illu- minated. Business houses on the main streets will be encouraged to make special displays to harmonize with the gen- eral scheme of decoration for 'their street. All decorations, according to the contract, must be in place by Sat- urday noon, August 16, and must re- main until Wednesday noon, August 20, so that 'tourists passing through the city will be advised of the nature of the celebration. The citizens' committee in a state- ment this week emphasized the fact that the entire demonstration as far as the north shore is concerned is a purely civic enterprize and will have no political aspect. North shore plans by this demon- stration to show its respect to its dis- tinguished fellow citizen and act the hospitable host to the thousands who will assemble in Evanston on August 19 to witness the ceremonies. Plans are under way to accommodate and entertain the crowd which it is estimated will be well over 50,000 the entire day.
