WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, OCTOBER 4, 1924 CHILDREN HAVE OWN SERVICES Junior Worship Hour Proves Popular The opening of the Junior worship service at the Winnetka Congregational church tomorrow morning, it is felt cer- tain, will be welcomed by the many boys and girls who have learned in past years how this special kind of church service gives them what they can understand and remember. The Winnetka church, with its two ministers and its two audi- ence roms, is equipped to offer both the Sunday morning service for adults, and the junior service for boys and girls, at the same hour. While the high school age children are encouraged to attend the adult service with their parents, those in the grades have the other ser- vice which is planned to come within their range of interest and understand- ing. Dr. J. W. F. Davies, minister of reli- gious education, leads this service, which is held in Rudolph Matz hall following the class work of the Church school. It is carefully planned each week in ad- vance; it varies on different Sundays; it ofen includes features that call out active particpation of the children them- selves, in the music of choirs and or- chestra, in the taking of the offering, in leading the readings, or in acting out dramatic illustration of the theme of the day. The stereopticon is a valuable means of presenting hymns for united singing, and for reading and prayers. The motion picture often shows a point- ed illustration of a Bible story that thereby is better understood and perhaps never forgotten. Parents in the village are enthusiastic over this solution of the problem of church attendance for the children, it is explained. The ideal of making it a service of true worship, for the younger intelligence, and a training period in re- ligion and in forming the habit of church going, challenge the attention of every parent who cares that his child shall grow into the higest type of char- acter, church leaders declare. Large Speeders' Crist in Local Police Court More rigid enforcement of the automobile and traffic regulations has brought fines for a score of violators who appeared before Magistrate C. T. Northrop and Justice B. A. Nelson, during the past week. Chief W. M. Peterson and his motorcycle squad have been arresting all violators of the ordinances. This war on speeders is not only a means of cooperating with the Chicago police but is designed to make the streets in Winnetka safe alike for motorist and pedestrian, is was emphasized. Those fined during the past week were K. A. Holloway, Glencoe, $10 and costs for speeding; Bert Whitehead, Chicago, $15 and costs, speeding; H. Ickes, $20 and costs, speeding; O. A.
