ty v WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 29, 1924 17 N. U. BEGINS CAGE DRILLS Football Men Out to Make Varsity Squad Basketball practice for some time in swing at Northwestern university be- gan in dead earnest this week with sev- eral prospective first string men who have been football togs all the fall sea- son getting into their stride on the hardwood floor. Coach Maury Kent hopes to have a fairly good five this year but is making no predictions. Of last year's letter men he has Graham, captain and guard; Mathews, guard; Kershaw, forward: Heppes, center; Christman, guard ; Karstens, forward, and Hoffman, guard. There will also be some likely material from last year's frosh, among whom may be noted White, for- ward; Leimert, guard, Kneiper, center, and the speedy Ralph Baker himself, forward. Most of the foregoing have either starred at football or have been in grid regalia most of the season. White, Mat- hews, Graham, and Baker, will be best remembered, while Leimert is another player who broke into one or two of the big football games. Some of the other promising youngsters on Coach Kent's list are: Fox, a guard; Schilling, guard; Greaves, center, who had a bit of experience last year; Ettinger, guard, who returns to Northwestern after a few years' absence; Kleige, guard, who had to quit football because of injuries but is out for the great indoor game. Northwestern has scheduled several in- teresting preliminary basketball contests, not as yet publicly announced, among them being the following: December 19, Notre Dame at Evanston; December 22, Michigan Aggies, Evanston; Decem- ber 30, Notre Dame at Notre Dame; January 3, Mercer university in Evans- ton. One other preliminary game may be put on before the conference teams will be faced January 10. The regular conference schedule for Northwestern follows: January 10--Michigan vs. Ann Arbor. January 14--Illinois vs. Evanston. January 19--Minnesota vs. Evanston. January 24--Ohio vs. Columbus. February 7--Iowa vs. Evanston. February 9--Michigan vs. Evanston. February 12--Illinois vs. Urbana. February 17--Chicago vs. Evanston. February 23--Ohio vs. Evanston. February 28--Minnesota vs. Minne- apolis. March 7--Iowa vs. Iowa City. March 11--Chicago vs. Chicago. Home games begin at 7:45 o'clock in Northwestern gymnasium. FIND REALTY COURSE POPULAR IN COLLEGES Eviednce of the general educational preparation which men going into real estate as a vocation are bringing into their work is found in the records of students now enrolling in the American Real Es- tate institute, Chicago. The new insti- tute, established by the National Asso- ciation of Real Estate boards to con- duct a national home-study course in real estate, is drawing its students from {men already in the business and from men preparing to enter it. A recent check of its first hundred enrollments shows sixteen of these to have had a college education. Of this group two hold de grees in law as well as an academic degree. Yale, Princeton, Dartmouth, New York university, Leland Stanford uni- versity and the University of California are represented. One student comes to real estate from training at West Point, and one from training in the School of Mines of the University of Minnesota. The University of Maryland, through M. A. Clemens, dean of the College of Commerce, has taken steps to add to its equipment for real estate courses the material on best methods now in use in the real estate business which has been collected by the National Association of Real Estate boards and organized in the lessons on real estate practice now be- in gissued by the institute.
