? WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 29, 1924 Thanksgiving Season Is Observed with Pageantry Winnetka school children revived Pur- itan history in a series of historical plays this week, as their special observance of the Thanksgiving season. At the Hubbard Woods school, on Tuesday morning, the pupils of Miss Blanche Hermann presented "A Pilgrim Trial in the Days of James I," and children in Miss Margaret Wilson's class portrayed "The Pilgrims at Scrooby in' 1607." The Wednesday schedule included the "Landing of the Pilgrims in 1620," as illustrated by Miss Catherine Smith's class. Miss Eva Cox's pupils were seen in a play depicting scenes in Plymouth in 1621. The program in the Hubbard Woods school closed with a "Harvest Processional," in which gifts of vege- tables and fruits were collected and sent to the needy families at the Chicago Commons. At Horace Mann school Miss Frieda Zmmmerman's class presented scenes de- picting the Pilgrims and Indians in the days following the landing of the "May- flower." Greeley school also observed the Thanksgiving season in fitting maner. Miss Le Reine Bubbett's pupils prepared an elaborate scene showing the trials and dangers attendant upon the "Escape of the Puritans to Holland." The chil- dren in Miss M. Clark's class gave a stirring trial scene of the Puritans in the days of James I. Apropriate music was selected for all the plays by the supervisor of music. The scenes were given under the gzen- eral direction of the supervisor of dra- matics in the elementary schools. North Shore Hockeyites Win Season's Final Game The North Shore Country Day school girls finished their hockey sea- son last Saturday with a victory over Roycemore of 3 to 1. The game was hard-fought and exciting throughout, the teams being well matched and both determined to win. This ends a successful fall season for North Shore, having shown in every line of sport that North Shore with its organized play and outdoor life can hold its own capably against many older and larger schools. Now that the football and hockey seasons are over, games between these two sides are going on throug- out the school and points being run up for the year's record. Next June the field day sports, primarily between these two sides, will finish the battle. All sorts of games are included in the year's events: football, hockey, basket ball, soccer, and those played by the very small children. Debates in morning exercises are sometimes added, and once in a while in the lower school, geography, French and spelling games. Once a "Purple" or "White" al- ways so, the captains of both sides being careful to keep the two sides about even in numbers. The definite division of the school brings about cooperation between children in wide- ly different grades and generates much enthusiasm.
