FA NET eS WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, DECEMBER 6, 1924 MEN BEAT WOMEN BUTIT'S HOCKEY Male Gladiators Use "Four Horsemen" Tactics IN An exciting game of field hockey + was played on Thanksgiving day be- tween the Winnetka Woman's Hockey team and an aggregation comprising their husbands and friends. The men won 6 to 1, victory coming by vir- tue of superior speed and brute strength rather than skill, according to the vanquished. The women were never quite sure of the number of their opponents, as substitutes were rushed into the fray with great abandon to supplant the breathless gladiators. On several oc- casions the game was halted to count the number of male contestants. The customary count was 12 rather than the required eleven. Due to their ignorance of the rules, many fouls were charged against the men. Follownig the manner of Knute Rockne, the men early elected a quar- tet of players who were dubbed "The four horsemen." They were injected into the argument whenever the for- tunes of battle favored the female species. The women hockeyites concede that after a little coaching, the men will develop into a speedy and powerful team. Outstanding stars were William Laing, Perry Smith, Walter Fisher and Thomas McLaren. The men's lineup included: Roy West, Perry Smith, Larned Greeley, Charles Matz, Henry Tenney, John Coolidge, Pres- Hachels- Flowers BEST QUALITY LARGE VARIETY Live Christmas Trees in Pots or Tubs STORE: 290 Greenwood Ave. Telephone Glencoe 155 GREENHOUSES: N. Leader caused consider- able confusion in the afternoon session at the Skokie school one day last week by appearing during the noon hour with her new moving picture comera slung over her shoulder. She wanted to get a film of her two boys, Donald and Jack, playing with their classmates. She had no trouble find- ing willing actors, in fact, the only trouble was experienced by the teach- ers in getting the actors in to their desks when the last bell rang. Mrs. Leader has been besieged by other children and teachers to take similar pictures of their rooms and she has made a number of promises for the near future. --Adv.
