WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, JANUARY 10, 1925 7 Advertising Leaders to Be Church Dinner Hosts Preparations are being made for the annual parish dinner of the Win- netka Congregational church, which ls on Wednesday evening, January - This is the largest parish gathering of the church year, and one whose interest increases every season. The dinner will be prepared entirely by the men, as it was last, and will be in charge of John C. Marshall. A vear ago the program was largely in the hands of the lawyers. This year a group of advertising and publicity men have the program in hand, and will try to show the lawyers the way it really should be done. Inasmuch as there will be seats for only 400 guests, it will be wise to send in reservations early--at the latest by January 19. Miss Mary Williams at the office in Community House will handle the matter of reservations and the sale of the tickets. Indian Woman Lectures Before Kindergartners At the opening assembly of the Na- tional Kindergarten and Elementary college for 1925, which was held on Wednesday, January 7, Mrs. F. P. Frazier--Wawathanoque (Lightning Woman) a full-blooded Indian of the Sac tribe gave a program of Indian songs and legends, together with a short talk on the Indian girl of the present day. The program was given in costume. For four years Mrs. Frazier, who is a graduate of Earlham college, has been associated with Y. "M. iC. A. work, which has taken her into the Indian government, mission and. pub- lic school and into almost every In- dian reservation. Lloyd Cdh Joins Staff of E. P. I have tried to imagine myself sitting on one of the proposed benches and a small boy sitting beside me asking all the questions of a youthful mind which would center around the coffin-like box. There is nothing inspiring in the sight of it. It has the suggestion of dead men's bones. I can find nothing suggestive of the leaping forth of the souls of our young men who heeded the coun- try's need, but I can see in my imag- ination, youngsters wondering what is inside and the more daring, find- ing that a wonderful wall to scale. I could imagine hearing Starr, Ely and McCordic saying "That is not the thing we felt. Life was joyous and free, so that the spirit of youth lived within us." Now, this boxlike affair is not like our boys. Their memory is more like a set of chimes ringing every hour from the new Village Hall, making one's. spirit leap at the thought of America's response. Every individual I have talked with dislikes this coffin effect. Are we not weighted to the ground 'enough? I hope for another idea. : J. W. E. Davies.
