WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, JANUARY 17, 1925 TWO BIG FILMS COME TO CENTER "Richard, the Lion-Hearted" Here Tuesday What are said to be two very ex- cellent motion picture productions will be offered at Community House next week when "Richard, The Lion- Hearted," is to be the feature of Tues- day's performances and "Secrets" at the Friday shows. "Richard, the Lion-Hearted" is a rare pictorial romance taken from Sir Walter Scott's novel "The Talisman". It is the story of England's most popular king as he wages wars on in- fidel hordes and struggles against treachery and intrigue in his army camps. Friday's picture, "Secrets," presents Norma Talmadge in the stellar role, assisted by Eugene O'Brien. It is a picture of modern romance with glimpses into three other peri- ods of American home life. Starting out in 1923, the picture later shows Norma first as a young wife of the early days in Wyoming and the far West. Death Claims Mother of Atty. William P. Sidley Mrs. Mary Frances Pratt Sidley, mother of William P. Sidley, 739 Humboldt avenue, passed away Tues- day, January 13, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Henry S. Foster, at Denver, Col., Services are to be held today at Oakwoods. Mrs. Sidley was the widow of Wil- liam K. Sidley, formerly president of the Keith Bros. company. She was 82 years of age and was born in Shore- ham, Vt. She came to Chicago 60 years ago. Surviving Mrs. Sidley are four sons and one daughter. "Jollies of 1925" to | Be Staged Here Soon February 11 and 12 have ounced as the dates on which the "Jol-| lies of 1925," the show to be presente.l by the Indian Hill Improvement associa- tion this year, will appear in the audi- torium of New Trier high school. The preliminary rehearsal was held Wednes- day night of this week when the actors for some of the parts were chosen and various arrangements completed. Monday night, January 19, another rehearsal will be held in the mess hall of New Trier high school after a short business meeting of the association at which time the rehearsals will start in earnest. Thereafter rehearsals will be held about twice a week. The show promises to be a tremendous success this year. The plot is fresh and zippy and the production will be staged by Joe Brenn of Chicago, who was in charge at previous shows given by the association which were so successful. Plenty of good local talent is available and the directors are having no trouble .n getting those they want to come out ior parts, Been Skatin' Yet? Well, It's High Time You Were Winnetka skating rinks are very popu- lar this year, partly because of the ex- cellent skating weather which has pre- vailed for so long, and partly because of the good work done by the Park board in keeping the ponds in top-notch condition. In addition to the large rink at the Skokie Playfield, the Park board is maintaining smaller ponds at Indian. Hill park and at the Hubbard Woods school. These latter ponds are principally for the benefit of the smaller children, but they are also used by older persons in the evenings. The remarkable skating conditions prevailing this season have forced many of the older generation to dig rusty skates from dusty attics or buy new ones and get out on the ice and make good their stories of ancient prowess "in the days when we used to have real skatin' weather." been an-!
