Mrs. Henry Tenney, who scored in the Guild productions of "Icebound" and "Dear Brutus," will have the leading role in "Fashion." Besides Mrs. Tenney, Dr. Davies Lazear, Mrs. William Boy- den, Charles Eastman, Robert Elmer and J. Williams Macy will be in the cast. "Fashion," by Anna Cora Mowatt, is a satire depicting' an ambitious mother who tries to marry her daughter to a French count insgead of the American soldier the girl loves, in order to bring nobility into the family. It is full of in- teresting situations leading up to the mother discovering the count is a bogus one, and the girl is able to marry the one she loves. The production includes a dozen songs of the period. Mr. Macy, and Dr. La- zear and Mr. Elmer not only have solos but sing in duets and quartets. The orchestra accompanying them is under the direction of Mrs. William Mac- Adams, also of Winnetka. Eleven Scenes The scenery, an exact reproduction oi the original scenery, has been designed by Aleyn Burtis and executed by the Play Production classes of the School of Speech at Northwestern university. There are eleven scenes to the play. Howard Mumford Jones, director of "Fashion," is known also for his writ ing. Mr. Jones is the author of "A Lit- tle Book of Verse," "Gargoyles," "The Shadow," a translation of Heine's poem, "The North Sea," and other things. Mr. Jones has been a member of the University of Texas faculty since 1916. This year he is connected with the Uni- versity of Chicago. Shortly before Christmas he directed "The Witch," given by the Prentice Players of North- western university. Tickets for the Guild play are going fast and promise to surpass the enor- mous seat sale for "The Enchanted Cot- tage," earlier this season. It is not too late, leaders in the Guild explain, to secure a membership in the organization. Mrs. J. C. West, 937 Gor- don terrace, Winnetka, is prepared to give information. An arrangement has been made this season whereby persons missing the first play may apply their tickets to any of the succeeding plays. John Jannson Is Summoned By Death at Tucson, Ariz. John Jansson, 585 Provident ave- nue, prominent resident and Chicago business man, died in Tucson, Ariz. January 13. He had been in failing health for some time and the journey Southwest was taken in the hope of restoring his vitality. Mr. Jansson was a member of the Winnetka Masonic lodge, president of Jansson Brothers, of Chicago, a mem- ber of the Oriental Consistory of the Medinah temple, Chicago. the First Church of Christ, Scientist, of Win- netka, the Swedish club, Executive club and Co-operative club, all of Chicago. He is survived by his widow, a son, Martin, of New York, and two daugh- ters, Margaret and Esther. Definite arrangements for the funeral not yet been made, but it have will be early in the week and the Masonic| lodge will officiate. Christmas was celebrated all over again last Sunday at the Winnetka Con- gregational Church school, when the be- lated box of Christmas gifts arrived from Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Reynolds who are in China. Great was the astonishment and sur- prise on the part of the pupils and teach- ers when the gifts were distributed at the ingenuity and effort which had been shown in the selection and purchases of the hundreds of presents. There was something for everyone of the 766 pupils in the Church school. Georgeous Chinese writing paper with striking looking envelopes was given to the girls in the upper grades. Fach child in the Kindergarten received a Chinese coin on a gay red or yellow cord. The Primary department was de- lighted with the gift of a Christmas card for each child, on which a Christ- mas message had been written in Chin- ese by some of the girls in the school in Shansi. There were gay little envelopes to contain the cards. The boys in the fourth year high school were greatly amused with the moustache combs, while the boys in the third year were equally pleased with the back scratchers allotted to them. Then there were carved wooden spoons, tooth picks and ear cleaners of carved ivory, scissors, little knives, miniature vases, little tea sets, chop sticks, and, perhaps, what won the envy of everyone, little wooden rice bowls. Gay little paper kites in the shape of dragon flies at- tracted the small boys. The pupils were all delighted at the thought of having something from China. It seemed to make it a very real place to them, to bring Mr. and Mrs. Reynolds very much closer. The select- ing and purchasing of these many arti- cles must have been a stupendous task, requiring much time and thought. A letter which told of the coming of the gifts said that they had bought every bit of letter paper in the town and "it was great fun and our love goes with every littlest thing." Masons to Hold Dance at Temple January 23 Practically all plans are completed for the dance and card party to be held in Winnetka Masonic temple Friday eve- ning, January 23, under the auspices of the Square club of the Winnetka Masonic lodge. The Temple club is cooperating with the temple building committee and they are making a transformation of the dance hall with draperies and new dec- orations. The dance on January 23 will be the first affair to be held in the newly dec- orated room. ------ Radio Fans Make the new Station Stamp collecting hobby prof- itable win a $25.00 Audi- torium Loud Speaker. They are placed between the middle rails of your windows and between the window sash and the frame. They are invisible when the windows are closed, and the part exposed, when a window is open, has an attractive and substantial appearance. The spring and tension in the strips will take care of all shrinkage and expansion of the windows and doors, and will make a tight, yet easily operat- ed, window at all times.
