It cost hin $57.50, to exact. It came about sohiething after this fashion: > (Norman and his wife Agnes, who is a/maid in a Winnetka home, drove to Milwaukee the other day in company with another couple. It seems that they mmbibed freely all day, but, according { Norman, everyone was all right ex- |: pt his wife, who just naturally want- ¢d to drink everything in sight. He felt i t he ought to hit her then, but re- frained, as he didn't want to spoil the party. However, when they got back to Winnetka he soaked her on the nose, by way of reproof. WEATHER FAVORS OUR YEARLY GARDEN MART Sunshiny warmth prevailed long enough last Saturday to enhance the charm of the Garden Market which opened on the village common at 10 o'clock in the morning to last until the early afternoon hours. This event, held annually under the auspices of the Winnetka Garden club, proved to be a huge success. The gay colors of flowers' and plants, the bright-colored frocks of the feminine members of the con- stantly moving throng, little children merry with the many-hued balloons. with the popcorn, the candies, and the ice cream purchased at the fair, artis- tic displays of perennials and garden accessories, the delicious cafeteria luncheon served at small tables under the trees, the hurdy-gurdy man with his box of music, and the tin-type man were features of the market that combined to create a foreign atmos- phere. Mrs. John Hardin and Mrs. Steph- en Foster were co-chairmen of the market, - Mrs. Marcus Richards, who was in charge of the luncheon, was assisted, among others, by Mrs. God- frey Atkin and Mrs. James Prindi- ville. Mrs. Harry Barnum supervised the nurserymen's exhibits. The children's booth was under the direction of Mrs. Richard Walsh. Mrs. George Forest and Mrs. Willoughby Walling man- aged the plant booth, while Mrs. Cor- nelius Lynde was in charge of the garden accessories stand. The Winnetka Garden club, of which Mrs. William P. Sidley is presi- dent, will direct the proceeds from the market into a fund to defray the ex- penses of the winter lectures. Skokie Children Hold Field Events June 5 Skokie school will hold its annual assembly and field day, Friday, June 5, to which afl sixth grade pupils from Winnetka schools will be invited.
