NE of the outstanding events in the women's golf world on the north shore occurs on Monday, June 29, when, at 9 o'clock in the morn- ing, play will start at Skokie club in the Open Day for the Women's West- ern Golf association. There will be 18 holes, medal play, with prizes for low gross, first and second low net, and for the least number of putts. In the afternoon at 2 o'clock, the event scheduled is a best ball foursome with a choice score of partners on the last nine holes. This coming week, Monday's match will be a four ball foursome, when class A players (handicap 1-20) will invite partners from class B (handicap 21- 36). An approaching and putting con- test is on the program for the after- noon. This week Mrs. Burt Hardenbrook won the match for low gross score, with Mrs. Louis Zinke carrying off honors for low net. In the afternoon, Mrs. Al- bert Webster of Kenilworth won the putting contest. On Tuesdays, women golfers at North Shore have their day of specially planned events and tourneys, and next week the members will have privilege of inviting friends, for the first Guest Day of the season will be held at that time. On Tuesday, in the play for the trophy put up by James Byrnes, Mrs. E..H. Uhlmann of Evanston won with a score of 81 net, with 105-24; 81. The best foursome event was carried off by Mrs. G. D. Wolff, Mrs. Lloyd Ayres, Mrs. John Caine, and Mrs. E. H. Uhl- mann. During the past week, members have been playing in 'the semi-finals for the Nicholas Ellis trophy, and at the time of going to press, those still in the run- ning were Mrs. Wallace Miller and Mrs. H. H. Harrison; Mrs. Ed. Baron and Mrs. A. D. Collins, who were paired off: in order named. i 'Sunset Ridge Tuesday at Sunset Ridge club, the committee in charge has planned for a foursome event, the award to be made on the choice score of partners. This past week, in. the match play against par, Mrs. F. 'W. Parker, Jr, was the winner in Class A and B com- bined. Mrs. C,.D. Wagstaff of Fvans- ton was winner in Class C and Mrs. Joseph Coambs and Mrs. R. Y. Hoff- man tied their scores in Class D. Local Clubs Honored Teams of five women each from eight north side clubs took part in the first event of the: North Side Club Woman's Golf association held at Onwentsia, Monday. Indian Hill won the honors of the day. The Nassau system of scoring was wmsed; and: the Indian Hill team was 1114 points ahead of their nearest rivals. Following is a list of the teams and their scores: Indian Hill, 82; Skokie, 70%; Evanston, 66; Onwentsia, 55%; Exmoor, 54; Glenview, 48; North Shore, 28; and Briergate, 15%. ? Friends in Council Elect New Officers HE following officers were elect- ed at the adjourned annual meet- ing of the Friends in Council of the Tenth district, held at the Orring- ton hotel, June 12: Mrs. Lewis A. Peck, president; Mrs. Julius Schoeninger, corresponding secretary, and Mrs. H. M. Alexander, treasurer. LL SEND ENTRANTS TO MATCH AT SKOKIE CLUB Columbia School of Music Closes Season HE, Columbia School of Music closed its musical season with a recital Monday evening, June 15, at the Winnetka Woman's clubhouse. This was the last recital of a series of three, given by the various pupils of the following teachers, Kathleen Air, Katherine Hedglin, Phyllis Kellogg, Mary Esther Winslow, and Valona Brewer. Miss Air announces with great pleasure the coming of Walter Spry to the Winnetka branch next season. He will take charge of the advanced work and artist pupils. Mr. Spry is an em- inent pianist and teacher who has been a member ofthe faculty of the Columbia Schoo! of Music for the last 10 years, and who is well known in musical cir- cles all over the United States. Mr. Spry is conducting an artist class this summer at the State college in Ala- bama. He will devote one day a week to the work in Winnetka. Lake Forest Garden Club Show Staged Next Week HE Lake Forest Garden Club show will be held on June 27 and 28, in the Service buildings of Mrs. Rockefeller McCormick's estate. This flower show will differ from pre- vious ones in that all classes will illus- trate the use of flowers in planting plans, color arrangement, table decora- tions, and emphasize the proper decor- ative use of flowers. All who are in- terested in gardens and flowers are urged to exhibit. Prizes will be award- ed and in addition the bronze medal of the Garden Club of America will be awarded to the most meritorious ex- hibit in the show. Club Plans a June Outing at Ravinia HE Friends in Council of the Tenth district will have an out- ing at Ravinia Tuesday, June 30. Not only club members, but their hus- bands and friends will partake of the picnic supper at 5:30 o'clock, and will later attend a performance of "Aida", at 8:15 o'clock. MILAN LUSK CLOSES BRILLIAN SEASON Milan Lusk, internationally known violinist, residing in Wilmette, has ap- peared recently in a series of note- worthy concerts.
