James Austin Richards to antici- pate his usual leave of absence by some 30 days, this season. He has, accord- ingly, left for the East where he will enjoy a complete rest until the fall ac- tivities of the church begin. Under ordinary conditions, Mr. Richards would have led the services for the next two Sundays, but yielded to the insistence of his medical ad- visors that he begin his vacation at once. The committee in charge of services for the summer period has therefore arranged to have the summer program start two weeks earlier, and has an- nounced an interesting series of ser- mons beginning Sunday, June 21. On that day and the Sunday follow- ing, the pulpit will be filled by the Rev. Paul E. Nelson, pastor of the Presby- terian church of Lewistown, Ill. Mr. Nelson has had a very broad and interesting experience. A gradu- ate of Washington university at St. Louis, and McCormick Theological seminary, Chicago, he has done a great deal of social work in various centers. As a result of these contacts he is dis- tinguished for a rather unusual breadth of view and knowledge of human na- ture. He is said to be a brilliant speaker. It is confidently predicted that those who attend these services as an in- direct compliment to Mr. Richards, will find Mr. Nelson a most worthy sub- stitute in the pulpit and a very engag- ing personality. I'he committee on arrangements has given much time and thought to plan- ning the summer program and feels safe in urging the residents of the vil- lage to watch the TALK for announce- ments of future services. "Atomic Theory" Will Be Christian Science Topic The subject of the lesson-sermon at the First Church of Christ, Scientist, on Sunday morning, June 21, will be "Is the Universe, Including Man, Evolved by Atomic Force?" Services are held in the Masonic temple at 708 Elm street at 11 o'clock. Sunday school convenes at 9:35 o'clock and the testimonial meeting is held on Wednesday evening at 8 o'clock. The reading room at 526 Linden street is open daily except Sunday from noon until 5 o'clock and on Wednesday evening from 9 to 9:30 o'clock. Medill Gives Journalist Degree to Winnetka Girl Miriam Johnson of 62 Warwick road, Winnetka, was awarded the degree of Bachelor of Science in Journalism by the Medill School of Journalism, Northwestern university, at the gradu- ating exercises of the university, Mon- day of this week. Miss Johnson, who was a member of Delta Gamma and Theta Sigma Phi, journalistic sorority, was also active in university journalistic circles, having served as assistant to the dramatic editor and as assistant to the woman's editor of the Daily Northwestern. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Simpson will return this evening to their home at 725 Walden road after a stay in Cali- fornia. --O0-- Sam Fleager will join the alumni at the Purdue university annual picnic at George Ade's farm at Brook, Ind. today.
