Fred Martin, one of the trio of the famed world flyers, is scheduled to fly July 4, at the Great Lakes Naval Training station, Great Lakes, Illinois. The occasion will be the second an- nual patriotic picnic and celebration sponsored by the Citizens Good Roads association, of which former mayor William Hale Thompson is the founder. Citizens who will celebrate the na- tional holiday at Great Lakes will not only have an opportunity of witness- ing Major Martin in flight action, but will also have a chance to see one of the greatest military, naval and commercial aggregations of flying planes ever in the west, it is said. The aeronautic exhi- bition will be in charge of Major Mar- tin and the War department will be represented by at least 30 land and sea planes. Crack aviators will perform their stunts from 11 o'clock to 5 o'clock, giving demonstrations in fancy flying, smoke screens, formation flying, loop- the-loops, with an aerial sham battle as the climax. » See Radio-Propelled Plane It will be the first time that civilian visitors will witness an airplane di- rected by radio. The tentative program for the pic- nic will start the day's sports with a baseball game at 12:30 o'clock, be- tween the jackies of the Great Lakes Naval Training station and the dough- boys at Fort Sheridan. There will be running races and open air athletic contests between the mem- bers of the women's division of the Amateur Athletic Federation of Cook County and the Central Association of the Amateur Athletic Union of the United States. Five bands will play for the holiday crowd. The organiza- tions include the Loyal Order of Moose, Ralph William's Skylarks from the Rainbo Gardens; the Blossom Heath orchestra, from the Garden of Allah and two bands under the direc- torship of Franklin C. E. Lunquist, from the WHT broadcasting station. The national salute will be fired at noon, which will be followed by the as- sembly for drill on the parade grounds. Entertainment will be provided in the afternoon by the entire company of "Rainbo Slendor" from Fred Mann's Rainbo Gardens, five principals from the Rendez-Vous with Earl Rickard, Jack Edwards, Ann Toddings, Auriole Craven and Alice Ridnor. As a special added attraction, there will be 40 stu- dents from the St. Ignatius College Glee club, under the personal direc- tion of John Gallivan. In conjunction with the Citizens Good Roads association's picnic, Great- er Chicago lodge, Loyal Order of Moose No. 3 will celebrate the Fourth at Great Lakes.
