Alden, 352 Linden ave- nue, was an eye-witness of the chase and gun battle with the bandits who robbed the Drake hotel in Chicago in one of the boldest daylight hold-ups in police annals Wednesday afternoon of this week. Mrs. Alden was driving south on Lake Shore drive, and was about a block north of the hotel when she heard the rattle of revolver shots and saw the bandits with police in pursuit speed northward along the drive shooting as they went She saw several policemen nearby commandeer motor cars and take up the chase. At first, she said, she thought that a hold- up had occurred on the street. It was several hours before she learned what had happened. New. Nelson Laundry Is Classed Among Finest Winnetka now has the most thoroughly modern laundry in the United States, according to the state- ment of officials of the Nelson Broth- ers laundry which moved into its new building at 566 Chestnut street, this week. The new plant, which is housed in a modern two-story brick building, is electrically equipped throughout and has all the latest laundry equipment. In fact, it is 10 years ahead of the time, it was said. Among other features there is a rest room for women em- ployes on the second floor. Chick Evans Has Praise for Illinois Golf Links "Chick" Evans, of golfing fame, to- gether with Judge Dennis F. Sullivan of Chicago, J. R. Murphy and C. W. Jordan were guests at the Illinois Golf club this week and played a round on the course. Evans' score for the first nine holes was 34 and for the second nine 39, making a total of 73 for the course. Evans expressed himself as very much pleased with the course and rated it as one of the best near Chica- go. He made particularly favorable comments on the construction and ar- rangement of the course. * Announce Services at Scandinavian Church Regular Sunday evening services of the First Scandinavian Evangelical church this week will be held at 8 o'clock, with H. O. Olney as the speak- er. A quartet from Chicago will give several selections. There will also be solo numbers. Next Wednesday evening, the usual Scandinavian services will take place with the speaker as yet unannounced. The English Young People's 'Bible class will meet next Friday evening, in- stead of Thursday, with Mr. Olney as teacher. More New Residences in Week's Building Grants Several permits for new residences were issued at the Village hall this week. C. H. Barnard will erect a frame residence at 659 Locust street, which will cost $16,000. J. T. Metcalf has taken out a permit to build a frame and stucco residence with attached garage at 649 Locust street to cost $15,000, and Dr. Elbert Clark will build a new frame and stucco garage and servants' quarters at 635 Blackthorn road, which will cost $6,000. The first social event in honor of Miss Eleanor Eckhart of Kenilworth, who will be married in the fall, will take place this evening when Mrs. E. C.
