WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, AUGUST 8, 1925 Musica le Fosters Plans of Playwriting Groups LARGE and delighted audience of north shore women filled the spacious rooms and gardens of Mrs. Harold Ickes' home in Winnetka at the musicale given last week for the benefit of the Evanston playwriting class, the members of which are rais- ing $1,000 toward supporting their own play director at Northwestern univer- sity. The afternoon was made notable by an author's reading of Louise Ayres Garnett"s exquisite poems and the singing of several groups of songs by Mrs. Frederic Winn, whose voice is of grand opera proportions, and who has been coached by Puccini, himself, in her singing of the aria from La Boheme. Mrs. Winn is a cousin of Mrs. Ickes, and is a guest from New Mexico, where she is prominent in the musical work of women's clubs. Theodore Hinckley added an inter- esting talk on the aim and develop- ment of the Playwriting class, thereby enlisting several new members from the towns farther north. The Class, of which Mrs. Carlos Andrews is sec- retary, will resume work the middle of October in the Evanston public li- brary, but will gather with its friends for several more delightful teas and garden parties during the summer months. ---- A number of Winnetka dramatic amateurs will attend the performance of "The Affairs of Anatol" by Arthur Schnitzler next Monday night at the Hotel Sherwin in Edgewater when it will be presented by the Attic players.
