Although as will be seen from this summary, what is known as "the stand- ard repertoire" served as the nucleus of the season, still, there were scveral novelties and time and again certain performances that may be ranked as performances assumed an importance that elevated them to unusual heights. For instance, the season was opened with a performance of "IL'Amore dei Tre Re" which by reason of its cast consisting of Lucrezia Bori, Giovani Martinelli, Giuseppi Danise and Vir- gilio Lazzari, made an impression that will never be forgotten. WINNETKA and the performance of "Pagliacci" with Mme. Bori, Mr. Martinelli and Mr. Danise was likewise memorable. "La Juive" sung at Ravinia for the first time this year has added a new star to Ravinia's crown and proved to be a triumph for Mme Raisa, Mr. Mar- tinelli and Mr. Rotheir. "Fedora" brought Mme. Raisa to the title role for the first time in her career and the part of Loris as song by Mr. Martinelli also created a fu- rore. "The Masked Ball" became a part of Ravinia repertoire this season and in it Mme. Raisa, Mr. Martinelli and Mr. Danise were particularly bril- liant. Massenet's "Manon" with Mme. Bori and Mr. Schipa gave new mean- ing to an old favorite and the intro- duction of Puccini's "Manon Lescaut" was equally acclaimed with Mme. Bori and Mr. Martinelli cast vis-a-vis. "Don Pasquale" gave splendid opportunity for Mme. Bori, Mr. Sihipa and Mr. Trevisan.
