Thr ------ WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 26, 1925 : Autumn Colors Predominate at Scott-Welles Wedding URING the garden service Wed- nesday afternoon, the sun broke through the two-day accumula- tion of clouds to glow in benediction upon the marriage of Miss Barbara Scott and Donald Phelps Welles that took place at the home of the bride's grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Cluett of Hubbard Woods. Several hundred guests gathered in the sunken garden for the ceremony which was read by the Rev. James Austin Rich- ards, and for the reception which fol- lowed. After the ceremony a supper was served from a brightly colored marquee, in the grounds of the John W. Scott home. Autumn was suggested in the colors worn by the bridal party. The bride wore a gown of flesh colored satin with a deep border and long sleeves of sheer lace. Her veil was held to her head with a flaring cap of tulle, and instead "of a bouquet, she carried a prayer book. Mrs. Edward K. Welles, the marton of honor, and Miss Emily Scott, the maid of honor. were attired in flesh colored satin draped with a material of warm brown. Dresses with char- treuse trimming were worn by the bridesmaids. Miss Tsabel Scott, Miss Margaret Scott. Miss Joan Stuart, Miss Nancy Heffelfinger, Miss Marion Smith, Miss Madeline Pressprich, Miss Louise Tyler, and Miss Betty Bunnell. All of the attendants wore wreaths of autumn leaves and fruit and carried " £ _ - garlands of green leaves "nd red and orange blossoms. Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Burnham, 1407 Tower road, have had as their guests Mrs. Burnham's sister, Miss Florence Willets, teacher of pottery in the Uni- versity of Minnesota, and Miss Emma Roberts, supervisor of drawing in the Minneapolis high schools, who left the village last week for New York, to sail from there for Spain to spend a year in the Balearic Islands, Spain, Sicily, Tunis and the Mediterranean countries. Miss Willets and Miss Roberts returned last June from a trip around the world. Mr. and Mrs. Burnham will open their. interesting studio for a rushing party for the Northwestern chapter of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority, Wednes- day evening, September 30. About 50 guests will attend the 7 o'clock supper and unique and clever program ar- ranged for the occasion by the spon- sors. RA A number of pre-nuptial affairs were held the first of this week in honor of Miss Barbara Scott who on Wednesday became the bride of Donald Phelps Welles. Mrs. Robert Cluett, 1147 Sheridan road, grand-mother of the bride, gave a dinner and theatre party for the 22 members of the bridal party Monday evening. Following dinner at the Casino club in Chicago, the party attended the Illinois theatre. Edward Kenneth Welles, 1411 FEdge- wood lane, sister of the bride, enter- tained the members of the wedding party at a luncheon at her home Tues- day. Donald Phelps Welles gave his bachelor dinner for his groomsmen at the Oswentsia club in Lake Forest Tuesday night. Mrs. John Hardin, en- tertained the bride, her maid and ma- tron of honor, and bridesmaids at her home on Sheridan road, Hubbard Woods, Tuesday night. CHICAGO A Winnetka family has recently re- turned from a most interesting trip to the Dunes where Frank Dudley, ccle- brated artist, has his delightful studio at Fremont, Ind., about 25 miles from Gary. There in the midst of high sand mounds, bare in spots, and at others covered with delightful woods, Mr. Dudley paints his pictures of trees and sand stretches that have become fam- ous. His painting entitled "Forest Fires" was the first picture to sell at last fall's exhibit at the Art institute. Mr. Dudley takes great delight in visitors, and even children find his studio a place of charming interest. On Mr. and Mrs. Victor Spoehr of Ev- anston, announce the birth of a son September 5, at St. Luke's hospital. Mrs. Spoehr was Miss Mildred Affleck, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B."F.
