WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 26, 1925 N. T. GRIDDERS CAPABLE SQUAD Lakeview Practice Tilt Indi- cates Coach Aschenbach Has Strong Eleven LINE DISPLAY SKILL. Backfield Gives Promise of Good Offense Winning her first game 3 to 0 against Lakeview High school of Chicago last week with her second string in almost half of the game, New Trier settled down to work this week for the open- ing suburban league game of the sea- son against La Grange, to be played here Saturday afternoon. New Trier won the game in the first quarter when Lakeview fumbled the ball in her own territory and May, New Trier"s wingman, recovered the oval. The ball was carried by New Trier to the 20-yard line where Lake- view held and Paletti kicked a field goal for the lone score of the game. Trick Plays Fail For the remainder of the first half the ball zig-zagged back and forth across the field, neither team having much advantage. Lakeview opened up with a series of trick plays, which failed to work more than once each. They were slow in executing their formations and New Trier players leaked through the line badly. Coach Aschenbach spent the second half experimenting with the courage of his second string. Many good players are in this squad and they R-A-D-1.0 | BATTERIES TUBES SERVICE | SUPPLIES The Radio Service Shop C. H.AFFEILDT 18 Prouty Annex WINNETKA, ILLINOIS held Lakeview well until the break came. Forced to kick near the end of the game, New Trier's line failed to shut out its opponents and the kick was blocked. Two players raced for the ball, one on each team, and Lake- view got the ball on New Trier's 30- yard marker. Lakeview opened up with everything it had and advanced to the 5-yard mark. Time was called and Aschen- bach rushed in his entire first team again. This bunch held the visitors to a standstill. With only a few min- utes left to play, New Trier elected to carry the ball rather than risk an- other blocked kick and held it until the whistle blew. This week's game with Ia Grange will see a much more polished style of play than was evident last week. The Lakeview game showed good form for an early season encounter, but the coaches have been working hard this week on fundamentals and play formations. Coach Aschenbach is not swamping his men with too many plays to begin with, but a neat variety of basic formations, to be varied later, has been given them and is sufficiently varied to give the quarterback's real chance at generalship. More weight than was expected has been found for the team this year. A number of the men have grown considerably since last fall and the line looks like it could do some real work. New Trier Schools Plan Inter-Scholastic Games Officials of the Wilmette schools, the Evanston Junior high school and the Kenilworth and Winnetka schools met last Wednesday evening to map out a program of interscholastic competi- tion for the coming school year. Much interest was shown by Wilmette school children in the inter-school athletic contests held last year and a more comprehensive program was planned for this season. Further details are to be announced later. Recommend New Lighting for Kenilworth Streets One more step toward a new electric lighting system for the Village of Ken- ilworth was taken Monday evening of this week when members of the board of local improvements, at a special meeting, passed a resolution recom- mending that the Village board adopt an ordinance authorizing the new sys- tem.. A public hearing on the proposed im- provement was held last week with a representative group of residents in at- tendance and all concerned seemed favorable to the project. According te the plans drawn up by the Village there will be 368 lights, set up in a "staggered" arrangement, similar to Wilmette's new lights. The Kenilworth system will cost about $118,800, it was said.
