Speed One Hundred Dollar Solid Silver Cup, at the Northwestern links, H. T. Zarem- ba defeated A. J. Hult 2 up. The match was one of the tightest played at Northwestern this year and the winner had 7 pars and 2 "birdies" on his card. In one of the semi-final matches for the H. Schuman Trophy, R. W. Hayden defeated J. B. Marshall, Jr. 4 and 3. Frank Goebel, professional, is play- ing this week in the Illinois Open Tournament. He and Dick Hughes were paired in the Pro-Amateur event at Mid-City, which precedes the Illi- nois tournament, and considering the condition of the course after the recent heavy rains. Plan Many Novelties at Carnival for Children Announcement was made this week that the children's carnival to be given by the Evanston Playwriting class Saturday, October 17, at the Burnham estate in Evanston, has been postponed until the following Saturday, October 24. Everything for the amusement of the children will be featured at the carnival. There will be a puppet show operated by Alexander Dean of the North Shore Theatre guild, a play, "The Poet's Well," by Alice C. D. Riley and all sorts of refreshments, such as frozen suckers, lollypops, bal- loons, a grab bag, tea and cake and other things. The proceeds of the carnival will go to a fund to provide its own director and producer for the class.
