Village Manager H. I. Wool- hiser has been instructed to secure the opinion of an independent consul- ting engineer in the matter and the question will probably come up before the village council for consideration when a report is obtained from this source. "As a result of the growth of the village and the increasing use of elec- tricity for domestic service, it is ex- pected that the demand on the muni- cipal electric plant will reach such a point in 1926 that additional provision will be necessary to insure a con- tinuance of uninterrupted service to the community," a village official states. "During the past, the service record of the Village electric system has been very good and compares most favor- ably with well operated systems else- where. Consider $65,000 Improvement "It is the policy of the council, in accordance with good engineering prin- ciples, to provide reserve capacity, sufficient to insure an adequate supply of electric energy, in case of trouble on any unit of plant equipment. The council is therefore, considering the advisability of now replacing an existing 300 KW turbine with a 2,000 KW machine, at an appropriate cost of $65,000, this unit to be installed in 1926. As has been done several times in the past, when plant enlargements have been under consideration, the Village manager has been instructed to secure the opinion of an independent consulting engineer on the proposi- tion of increased generating capacity and also as to the possible economy of avoiding or postponing the neces- sity for this investment by means of an emergency connection with the Public Service company, for use in case of serious trouble at our own plant. "It is expected that this report will be received and presented to the Water and Light committee of the council within the next two weeks, and that it will constitute a basis for their con- sideration of general policy as to whether the best interests of the village will be served by providing duplicate generating capacity at the plant or by providing an emergency break-down connection with a system outside of the village."
