26 WINNETKA TALK November 21, 1925 Lengthen "L" Trains to Improve Service Amid Rush Periods Six and eight-car express trains were placed in service on the Rapid Transit lines beginning with the rush hour Monday morning of this week. This will make a total of 70 cars added to the service on the various lines in the past few days. Original plans called for lengthening the trains on completion of platform extensions. However, it was ex- plained, the unprecedented heavy rush Work on extension of platforms is being rushed with all possible speed. Steel structures already have been in- stalled at several stations on the north side, and workmen are now busy at several points in the Loop. The neces- sity for completing this job at the earliest possible moment is increased with the lengthening of trains. Few stations outsiue the Loop can accom- modate eight-car trains at present. To overcome this obstacle, the eight-car trains will be cut into two sections upon reaching the sections of the Lines where platforms have not yet been extended. However, Mr. Feron pointed out, the company cheerfully assumes this added operation cost to insure rapid transit patrons proper comfort and convenience. The annual birthday celebration of the Chicago Commons Woman's club was held last Monday afternoon. The guests of honor and the speakers were Dr. and Mrs. Graham Taylor, Mrs. M. H. Lieber, and Mrs. Mabel Hartwell. --P Roger Barrett, 623 Abbottsford road, Kenilworth, left Thursday with friends of his parents to visit New York City and go to the Princeton-Yale game on Saturday.
