The occasion was a meeting of the Winnetka chap- ter, Isaac Walton League of America. The scene of the dinner was the assembly hall of Community House. The ducks, served by a Winnetka cateress, had been winged by an un- erring huntsman, familiar to the com- munity as A. Montague Ferry. Presi- dent J. O. Ely of the chapter, pre- sided at the dinner, but early handed the gavel to Toastmaster Ferry. Talks covering a wide range of out- door activity and singing provided the delightful program. These talks were given, for the most part, by members who have achieved honorary titles in the chapter. Hear Thrilling Tales Sherman M. Gobel, "Adventurer," described a sea voyage in a most graphic manner; Percival Hunter, "Ancient Mariner," told of an experi- ence on Green Bay, giving a marvelous depiction of a storm; "Chief" J. W. F. Davies of Community House, "Chief Ranger," spoke of the wonderful Sierra' Nevada trails; Norman K. Anderson, "Compleat Angler," favored with some thrilling incidents from his experi- ences: Arthur H. Woodward, "Meat Hunter" recounted his experiences in breaking trails, building roads and sur- veying in the north woods; Alfred E. McCordic, "Feather Chaser," told of duck hunting in the West and South; Merrit Starr read a clever and humor- ous narative. Singing of popular and old-time songs was interspersed with the story- telling, with Arthur Dean as director of that feature of the program. Come in Hunting Garb Adding color to the setting was the happy sight of most of the diners ap- pearing in hunters' garb, with flannel shirts and hiking boots predominating.
