Mrs. C. E. Karl- Ruling off of all parking space on the public streets with alternate spaces for long and short wheelbase cars is a suggestion -of the American Auto- mobile association which will be dis- cussed at the next meeting of the ex- ecutive committee of the local branch of the Chicago Motor club, according to an announcement given out at the organization's headquarters this week. It is pointed out by H. M. Brown, general manager of the club, that the problem in parking today is one of conservation of space. In discussing the suggestion Mr. Brown will bring to the committee's attention the wastage of available space due to the carelessness and in- eflicient way cars are parked. "A motorist will select a space at random," he says, "with the result that he may destroy two other spaces for all drivers except those at the wheels of extremely short vehicles. By mark- ing out all parking spaces motorists weuld welcome the opportunity to oc- cupy just the space they need without inconveniencing someone else. Natur- ally they will welcome the opportunity to find a parking space without being inconvenienced by others. "The A. A. A. plan provides for the division of available space into long and short spaces for cars with wheel- bases in accordance. Car owners would soon discover which type of parking space best fits them. "There are a number of points to be ironed out, in such a plan. This is to be expected, for the ideal plan is never within the bounds of reality. It may be necessary, for instance, to provide for a greater number of short spaces owing to the greater number of short wheelbase cars. The expens: to the community would be offset by reason of the elimination of signs tell- ing people where to park." Mrs. J. H. Barnes and Mrs. Sherman Orwig were hostesses at a "Bon Voy- age" luncheon recently at Mrs. Bar- nes' home, 238 Poplar street, in honor of Mrs. Hyman Raclin of 528 Elder lane, who with Mr. Raclin and their family, are leaving soon for a trip to New Orleans, Cuba, and Florida.
