2 Foi December 19, 1925 WINNETKA TALK 37 FETE POOR CHILDREN Northwestern Students Give Special Christmas Parties for Little Fellows of Tenement Districts Christmas celebration on Northwest- ern university's Evanston campus took the form this year of entertain- ing 200 lads from the poor districts of Chicago by fraternity men on Decem- ber 17, and from the standpoint of the girl students, a liberal contribution of dressed dolls and holiday stockings, stuffed with candy, to the children of the neighborhood of Northwestern University Settlement. The men's holiday plans for the poor kids of Chi- cago were directed by the campus Y. M. C. A. while the girls' efforts were guided by the campus "Y. W." I. Charles Norton, of Kaukauna, Wis., a senior student, was chairman of the settlement work committee of the "Y. M." at Northwestern and the pro- gram followed by the fourteen fraternities and four open men's dor- mitories followed. The girls worked under the per- sonal leadership of Hazel Fraser, of Kenilworth, chairman of the Chi- cago Social Service department of the campus "Y. W." Over 1,000 Christmas stockings have been filled with candy and nuts, the freshmen girls' groups co-operating in this work, and were donated to the kiddies of North- western University Settlement. Each of the eighteen sororities dressed at least 15 dolls, while the alumnae of the sororities displayed interest in this endeavor, so that over 300 dolls were dressed for the little mothers of the northwest side of Chicago. Wednesday afternoon, December 16, at 4 o'clock in Harris hall reception room a doll-show was staged by the girls. Boy Hikers Want Camp in Forest Preserves Thirty-two boys of the Kenilworth Community center Junior Hiking club took their first club hike last Saturday under the guidance of Robert Town- ley, physical director of the center. The boys, who ranged in age from 10 to 12 years, hiked to the forest preserve and were accompanied by Julius A.
