Adams, Leader, Outlines Possibilities of Chicago Exposition (Continued from last week) "Without going into details there is one suggestion I would like to make with reference to the location of the Exhibition. On the present site of Grant Park, enlarged to its proposed size, there should be restored the original city of 1837, or one as nearly like it as possible in every respect. So that people coming from all parts of the world would have a chance to visualize the comparison between the city of 1837 and the city of 1937. "Our own citizens, many of whom are unfamiliar with the efforts and struggles required in building this city, would appreciate better the city in which they live if they could see the contrast made possible by the efforts of its citizens. There is no better les- '|son in true Americanism than what people from all parts of the country and the world coming together in what was once the frontier of our country, have done by a common effort to Winnetka | have the Art | build such a city in the heart of Amer- | 1ca. | Appeal is Democratic | "In making the physical plans for | the exhibition, this city will already Museum, the Field | Museum, the Municipal Pier, the Sta- [ dium, the old Field Museum in Jack- | son Park, as a beginning, Chicago is | the capitol city of both Transporta- | tion and Agriculture in this country. | The Centennial would offer an oppor- | tunity to construct as permanent build- | ings, a Temple of Agriculture and of Transportation. These would remain | as permanent centers for active service |to the country. | "The real value of this movement is its influence upon the individual | citizen. Its appeal is general and democratic. It will give to the in- dividual a new goal to strike at. Tt will quicken ambitions and increase both the imagination and the energy ind good will of patriotic citizens. It will keep older men and women more alert and active to retain the strength of their usefulness during the period. It will call out the adventuresome spirit of youth into public services that are interesting, colorful and worth while. It will be a rallying point where the diversified interests and different types of our citizens may unite in pub- lic service. "Citizens with whom I have dis- cussed this idea have been impressed with this value to the individual cit- izen as one of its most important fac- ors. They believe that when this idea 'akes hold of its citizens, it will give | 1 steady impulse of the development "Chicago is a congregation of inter- | ests and of individuals.
