pa | 2 Hosni id b ea a February 6, 1926 WINNETKA TALK 21 Infant Welfare Work Progresses Rapidly During Past Season A report of the annual meeting of the Infant Welfare Society of Chicago brings announcements of interest to all those along the north shore en- gaged in Welfare work. "Over 600 persons attended the fif- teenth annual luncheon of the Infant Welfare society of Chicago January 27, Lucius Teeter presided. The speak- er of the day was Esther Loring Rich- ards, M. D., associate professor of Psychiatry at Johns Hopkins univer- sity. Her subject, "Child Behavior,' was most interesting. Miss Sara Place, superintendent of the Infant Welfare society of Chi- cago, and president of the Illinois State Nurses association, read a very fine report. She said there was 11 percent more work done with less than 3 percent in expenses during 1925. She reported that 12,847 babies under 2 years of age were cared for during the past year and the life rate was 98.7 percent for the year. This is only part of the work, as the pre- natal and pre-school work were also very fine. The reports of the Woman's auxiliary were received with the grea*- rst enthusiasm, at the morning meet- ing preceding the luncheon. Miss Gladys Spry retired from the presidency of the auxiliary after five years of splendid leadership. Mrs. Swanson was elected president for 1926. A large number of Winnetka alumni of Loyola university will attend the dinner to be held in the Red Lacquer room of the Palmer House Wednes- day, February 10, to celebrate the fact that the enrollment has gone beyond the 5,000 mark. The principal address will be given by Mayor Dever. Students Will Sing at "Merry Widow" Showing Twenty-five student singers from Northwestern university will sing at the New Campus theatre Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of next week, in connection with the showing of "The Merry Widow," from the great musical comedy which was such a big hit on the stage. Mae Mur- ray takes the leading part in the pic- turized version of the story which is classed as one of the best pictures of the year. The many beautiful musical numbers which were sung in the stage version of "The Merry Widow" will be rendered by the Northwestern singers. TO INSTRUCT CLASS Mrs. Maurice Lieber is to be the instructor in Parliamentary Procedure for a new class being formed by the Mu Phi Epsilon national sorority at Northwestern university, Tuesday eve- ning, February 9, at Harris Music hall. Mrs. Walter Benson of 671° Lincoln avenue is the past grand national pres- ident of this sorority. Last Wednesday, Miss Marcella Met- tler, 1119 Sheridan road, was taken into Pi Sigma Alpha, chartered art sorority, at the formal initiation and banquet at the Palmer House.
