Mitchell have accepted trusteeships with North- western university. There was a meet- ing of the trustees at the Drake hotel this week and approval of their names was formally made, according to Pres- ident Walter Dill Scott. [ Mr. Insull is head of various local electric light and gas companies and is heavily interested in others, including the Commonwealth Edison company, the Middle West Utilities company, People's Gas, Light and Coke company, and the Chicago, North Shore and Mil- waukee railroad. Mr. Insull is per- sonally interested in the amalgamation of Armor Institute of Technology with Northwestern university as he has re- cently expressed a desire to see Chicago the engineering educational center of the United States. John J. Mitchell, president of the Illi- nois Merchants' Trust company of Chi- cago, formerly the Illinois Trust and Savings bank, is one of the best known bankers in Chicago and has long been interested in Northwestern university. He is the second bank president to be |on the board of trustees of North- ! western university, the other being Melvin A. Taylor, president of the First National bank of Chicago. For many years Mr. Mitchell's bank has occupied, in part a site at LaSalle street and Jackson boulevard owned by Northwestern university, and the relations between the bank and North- western have always been extremely pleasant, it is said.
