hh ------ February 27, 1926 WINNETKA TALK | "God and Idols," Next Subject in Tuesday Lectures By OBSERVER The marvelous literary beauty of the later chapters of Isaiah would be suf- ficient reason for their study if no other was named. Do you recall the beauty of Is. 40:1-11?7 The Rev. J. A. Richards spoke of that portion Tuesday morning, February 23, and gave a most informing story of how the chapters of 40 to 66 of Isaiah are credited by scholars to an unknown author called, for convenience, the "Second Isaiah." A very striking feature of the talk was the suggestion as to what de- velops a nation's literature. Many of the psalms, lamentations, some of the lesser or minor prophets, Ezekiah's great book and all historical books compiled and known as the Hexateuch were written at this time. Yet this was the period of exile, of suffering, of discouragement. Never have the beautiful words "Comfort ye, comfort ye, my people-- speak ye comfortably," or "whisper wooingly to Jerusalem" meant so much as when read at the close of the morning lecture. Do not miss the second lecture to be given Tuesday morning, March 2, at 10 o'clock, on "God and Idols." Isaiah 40:12-31 and Isaiah 44:9-20. Neighborhood room, Community House. Mrs. J.
