"tT i ssn f March 6, 1926 WINNETKA TALK 41 Receive New Members at Sunday Services | A reception of new members and celebration of the Lord's Supper will he features of the special services to be held at the Winnetka Congrega- tional church beginning at the usual hour, Sunday morning at 11 o'clock. A reception of new members is held every two months. This is a very in- teresting and at the same time sacred service. Among the members to be received will be the Rev. and Mrs, Thomas A Goodwin, formerly of Dundee, T11., Mr. Goodwin now being one of the pastors at the church. The reception will be held early in the service and the cele- bration of the Lord's Supper will be held towards the close. Rev. James Austin Richards will preach from the text, Romans, 5-8. His sermon theme will be, "First Act," one especially ap- plicable to the Communion service, and in which Mr. Richards will endeavor to answer the question as to whether the initiative in religion is with us or with God. The special music for this service will include an organ prelude, "An- dante," from First Sonata, James H Rogers; Anthem. "Festival Te Deum," Dudley Buck: Offertory anthem, "I'm a Pilgrim, I'm a Stranger," Marston: Organ postlude, "Allegro." from First Sonata, James H. Rogers. Mrs. Dennis Gent Will Appear on Music Program The Music department of the Win- netka Woman's club, Mrs. Everett L,. Harris, chairman, announces as the program for March 16, at 2:30 o'clock, Mrs, Dennis Gent, contralto, with Miss Hadassah McGiffen at the piano. Mrs. Gent has appeared with the Lit- tle Symphony orchestra, given a pro- gram for the Woman's Athletic club of Chicago, and sung several times for the Musicians' club of Chicago. Two Members of School Faculty Marry Feb. 27 Saturday February 27, at 4 o'clock at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Willard W. Beatty, 872 Pine street, Winnetka, Howard Funk and Miss Margaret Stewart, both of whom are members of the Skokie school faculty, were united in marriage, the Rev. James Austin Richards, of the Winnetka Congrega- tional church, performing the ceremo- ny. The guests comprised only a few intimate friends and relatives of Mr. Funk and his bride. They will continue teaching the remainder of the year, and will reside in the Weissenberg apart- ments, INVESTIGATE PENSION ACT The Village council received a com- munication from Chief W, M. Peter- son of the police department at its meeting Tuesday evening, calling at- tention to the fact that the Village may benefit from the Illinois Pension Fund act. J. Reiner, Prefect of Studies at Loyola university, in a sermon at the Sacred Heart church at Hubbard Woods this week, The subject of Father Reiner's sermon was "Glory to God in the High- est and Peace on Earth to Men of Good WilL" In the course of his talk he mentioned the League of Women Voters as one of the best means of spreading knowledge and understand- ing and good will, and he urged all the women in the parish to join this organization. The 700 members of the Winnetka League of Women Voters who have been working for several years here to get out the vote and to make it an intelligent. vote were very pleased when. they. were told of his praise of the league work. The Winnetka league is a part of the National league and has members of every political affilia- tion. Mrs. Walter Benson of 671 Lin- coln avenue, is the president of the Winnetka league. Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Wilcox have rented their residence at 708 Willow road, for a year, and are now residing at 513 Aldine avenue, ald F. McPherson is the head. Following an important busi- ness meeting, at which the matter of the zoning of the Manus Indian Hill subdivision was discussed, the chorus gave a long program, including solos, quartets, and full chorus number. In spite of the cold weather a large crowd attended the meeting. The next meet- ing of the organization will be held on Monday, April 5, when a "radio party supreme" will be staged.
