B | March 13, 1926 WINNETKA TALK 35 Present Own Swiss Play Photo by Lehle The boys and girls of the third grades of the Hubbard Woods school presented a Swiss play at the Assembly period last week. For the last two months the children have been studying Switzerland in their social science work. The history, customs and manners of the Swiss people have been discussed to furnish an appropriate background for the various activities. During the group and creative activities part of the day a trip was taken to see Swiss chalets. The sand table was turned into a Swiss village with its lakes, mountains, etc. Legends, myths, and modern stories of the Swiss were read; folk songs and folk dances were learned. As a material out- growth of these activities, the children decided to dramatize the "Swiss Twins," by Lucy Fitch Perkins. They chose the characters and each child in the group participated in the play. With the co-operation of the art, music and physical education supervisors, the children made their costumes and scenery and learned their folk songs and folk dances. They enjoyed the play so much themselves that they gave it for the other schools as well as their own school. This is typical of the work being done in the group 'and creative period of the schools.
