U.-Armour Merger Great Chicago Asset Chicago may become the greatest of engineering educational centers if the amalgamation of Armour Institute and Northwestern university School of En- gineering is completed, according to President Walter Dill Scott of North- western, who contributes an editorial to the "Armour Engineer," in the cur- rent quarterly issue. The editorial deals with the various sides of the amalga- mation and should please students and alumni of both institutions, as Dr. Scott is sure the union will help each of their alma maters. He writes in part: "The affiliation would mean for the Armour students a campus home, in- creased facilities for work, intimate contact with students of diverse inter- ests, and in many ways a richer and a fuller undergraduate life. "The affiliation would mean for the Armour alumni increased pride in their Alma Mater because of the increased possibility for her usefulness in the fu- ture. "The affiliation would mean for the Armour faculty stability and expansion of the work which they have carried on so faithfully, and which will con- tinue to develop under their co-opera- tion. "The affiliation would mean for the late P. D. Armour, his descendants, and for all who bear the name of Armour, a memorial that is appfopriate, endur- ing and serviceable. "The affiliation would mean for Northwestern university co-operation in developing an outstanding school in one of the most important phases of human learning. "The affiliation would mean for the City of Chicago pre-eminence in the realm of engineering education. Chi- cago is increasingly a center of the en- gineering activities of America, and the combined efforts of Armour and of Northwestern should result in the crea- tion of an institution that would com- mand the esteem and support of the en- gineering interests of this great ter- ritory. "The affiliation would mean so much for all concerned that the project must not fail." BETROTHED Mrs. William S. Waples of Downers Grove this week announced the en- gagement of her daughter, Florida, to David Padcliff Lasier, son of Mrs. David S. Lasier of 731 Lincoln avenue. The wedding will take place in the early fall. Mrs. William Hogan of Minneapolis is visiting her mother, Mrs. S. F. Mc- Kenney of 752 Foxdale avenue. Frederick E. Lewis Resident NORTH SHORE Funeral Director Mr. Frederick E. Lewis, assisted by Mrs. F. E. Lewis, has had twenty-one years of successful service in this field.
