Lady Assistant Private Ambulance PHONE UNIVERSITY 600 North Shore Golfer to Play in Contest at National Exhibit A recent announcement conveys the news that Miss Dorothy Klotz of Win- netka, celebrated woman golfer, who needs no introduction to the north shore, will be among the prominent women golfers of the country who will participate in the national golf show to be held at the American Exposition palace, Lake Shore Drive, Chicago, April 6 to 10. The interest of a group of prominent north shore women is engaged in the venture, and 50 percent of the money received from the advance sale of tickets, it is stated, will be given to Grove House for Convalescents. An exhibition putting tournament be- tween women golfers of note will be staged, and it is announced that the committee plans to invite, among others, Miss Virginia Van Wie, Miss Glenna Collett, and Miss Dorothy Had- field, who will take part in the contest. The play is produced in north shore towns through personal courtesy of A. H. Woods, and was made available locally through the influence of his friendship with Gene Markey, Evans- ton writer. It enjoyed a lorig London run last season and successful showing 'ast autumn in New York. "The Pelican" is a fourcact drama concerned with a mother's sacrifice for her son, and presenting the problem of the duty of the child to the parent when his own career is at stake. Erma Blaine McKendry of Evans- ton plays the leading role carried in the professional performance by Mar- garet Lawrence. Hawley Mertz, also of Evanston, plays the leading mascu- line role and Norman Parker, Eugene E. Macy and Leon McKendry are oth- er local players. The cast includes also Spaulding Coffin and Samuel Otis and Miss Olive Fentress of Winnet- ka, Edward Felke of Wilmette and Miss Margaret Merriweather and Mrs. Rogers S. Vail of Highland Park. The play is directed by Alexander Dean of Evanston. Flu Epidemic Hits High School Attendance Hard The epidemic of influenza and colds which has been felt in Chicago and all north shore suburbs resulted in all ab- sence records for New Trier high school being broken last week, it was said. According to school authorities, more than 250 pupils were absent from the school on Wednesday of last week. This constitutes nearly 20 per cent of the entire student body. The atten- dance average was only slightly over 80 per cent the latter part of the week, it was said. This week the attendance average has been much higher, it is re- ported.
