April 3, 1926 WINNETKA TALK 11 Penfield-Busse FARM BECOMES "CITY" | Bs OOOO OOOO EG == Gh Ticket Receives | Big Tree Farm Near Glenayer Skokie : THE(@®) Eun Backing of "700" | Valley Station Bought for Subdivi- . | sion o "The North Shore is rising in defense of its candidates," reads the bold cap- tioned letter of endorsement circulated this week by the "New Trier Commit- tee of 700," which is sponsoring the election of the Penfield-Busse Country Towns ticket in the Primary campaign of County board candidates. The "Committee of 700," comprised of large representations from the four villages of New Trier--Wilmette, Ken- liworth, Winnetka and Glencoe, in its communications directed to the Repub- lican voters of New Trier, is stressing the importance for the good of the county, of renominating Frederick W. Penfield of Glencoe, who is described as "courteous, painstaking, capable-- with the interests of our north shore villages at heart." Other candidates endorsed in the let- ters: are William Busse of Mt. Pros- pect, a county commissioner for 24 years; George A. Miller, of Oak Park; Dudley D. Pierson, Chicago Heights, and Lachlan H. MacLean of Evanston, for seven years assistant forester of the Cook county Forest Preserves. The "Committee of 700" particularly emphasizes in its literature the neces- sity for a large vote at the Primaries on April 13. "Be Sure to Vote" is their final challenge to every Republican in New Trier. The Executive committee of the New Trier Committee of 700 is comprised of Gen. John V. Clinnin, township chair- man; Mrs. Andrew MacLeish and Merle B. Waltz, representing Glencoe : Eugene Rummler and Mrs. Morris I. Greeley, representing Winnetka: Mrs. J. K. Farley, Jr., and Frank R. Young, representing Kenilworth; Mrs. Hoyt King and Robert Stoddard, represent- ing Wilmette. The plans are all made and the stakes set for transforming the Big Tree Farm another of the old rural land- marks west of Wilmette into "city lots." The purchase of this tract of forty- two acres by the United Realty com- pany, of 111 West Washington street, Chicago, at the reported price of $5,000 per acre, also establishes a new high record sale for acreage in this rapidly developing section, which also is included in the 1,500 acres now being prepared for annexation to the village of Wilmette. This splendid tract on which is located the stately old elm tree from which it long ago derived its distinc- tion as the "Big Tree Farm," lies on the north side of the Wilmette-Glen- view road, directly east of the tracks and across the road from the new Glenayer station on the North Shore Electric railroad, soon to be put in operation. It will have 1,500 feet of business property on the Wilmette-Glenview road and a pleasing system of streets and residence lots will complete the plans which the United Realty com- pany are developing here. The recent sale of the Big Tree Farm was the first time it has changed hands since 1913, when it was pur- chased by the late Edwin F. Bailey, who gave it to his four grand- chil- dren, Robert and Alice Clark, son and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin H. Clark, of 596 Oak street, Winnetka, and John B. and Katherine Mordock, son and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles T. Mordock of 645 Maple ave- nue, also of Winnetka, by whom the recent sale was made.
