4 WINNETKA TALK June 12, 1926 New Trier High School in 1909 The above illustration shows the development of the high school after the first eight years of its history and is taken from the pages of The Trevian, an historical annual published by the senior class of 1909. Here we have a view of the school buildings taken from the east. The larger structure is the familiar central section, or administra- tion building of the present school plant. The building in the foreground housed, on the main floor, the manual and mechanical arts departments of the school including wood-working, metal-work, forge, drawing, pottery and modeling and other branches. On the second floor was the gymnasium, the scene of many a thrilling inter-school basketball contest in the early days. Publicity Is Big Factor in Success of "Enlightenment Publicity for the pageant "Enlighten- ment," a gigantic task in itself, has been in charge of H. H. Herron, of the Commerce deparment at New Trier. This work included in the main, general publicity by postors, automo- bile stickers, news articles in school and township publications and the pub- lication of the Pageant Souvenir edi- tion of 68 pages. Posters announcing the anniversary event were designed by students in the Art department, were done in oil, and the best works selected by a committee of judges. The winning posters in the contest were placed in attractive frames and exhibited at points of vantage throughout the township. The Village boards of the various com- munities co-operated by granting per- mission for the placing of these post- tid i. | ers. The anniversary souvenis edition, printcd in the shops of Lloyd Hollis- ter, Inc. contains a complete outline of the pageant "Enlightenment," as well as valuable and interesting his- torical facts about New Trier. It is beautifully illustrated. A special anniversary number of the New Trier News, the high school weekly, was issued this week, and the New Trier annual, "Echoes," was in the nature of an anniversary edition. Students who did outstanding serv- ire in the publicity line were Robert Kenyon, Helen Dryman and Emilie Durham, who were assisted by a score or more of other students in the Journalism, Commercial and Art de- partments of the school. Mrs. T. Milton of 530 Willow road left Tuesday for a fortnight's visit in New York.
