The 40th annual Commencement of the National Kindergarten and Elementary college was held in Har- rison hall Wednesday afternoon, June 9, at 3 o'clock, the commencement ad- dress being delivered by Horace J. Bridges, leader of the Chicago Ethical society. President Edna Dean Baker gave a short report of the progress of the college during the year,--a year which stands out in the history of the school in that it has seen the completion of Harrison hall, the removal from Chi- cao to the north shore and the dedi- cation of the building. Diplomas were presented to 125 young women who have completed two, three or four year courses of- fered by the college, and eight hon- orary scholarships, in recognition of outstanding ability and character, were presented to students, enabling them to return for the third year of training. Here, on Virginia avenue, just west of Brier street, Myron Cornish, of Oak Park, is building another of those beautiful seven brick, English colonial houses. It is unusual, but pleasing, in design, and is also out of the ordinary in con- room, struction. The outside and main cross walls are of gypsum. J. W. Schrock is the contractor in charge of the work. Mr. Cornish also built the attractive new house just to the west of this property, and which W. W. Baer has purchased and now occupies. David E. Elmgreen, the contractor, is building a six-room, shingle side resi- dence, in the same vicinity, for Paul F. Gilbert. It is a short distance north on Brier street. A foundation is being put in this week for another new six room, brick residence for Paul F. Gilbert, at the southwest corner of Roger avenue and Brier street. Robert Volk, of Chicago, is the contractor for this building.
