Chief Houren says Winnetka citi- | zens should bear in mind that there | is always a supply of fuses on hand at the Village hall, at a nominal cost. [t's much cheaper to buy a new fuse | occasionally, should one blow out, than light fuse to prevent the fuse blowing | it is to have the fuse plugged with a out. and safe. The latter. combination of pennies and fuses, is dangerous and might re- sult in a fire that would destroy your property. G. M. Houren, chief of the Win- netka fire department, on one of his recent rounds of inspection in the busi- ness district of the Village, came upon a case wherein pennies had been used in the manner just mentioned. He says that he {frequently finds pennies in fuses, and is constantly warning against the practice. Chief Houren says he finds that peo- ple do not appreciate the danger of the practice, and they do not have to be warned the second time against it. For the reason that there may be many who are not aware that the electric light fuse is not a safe place for pennies, in more ways than one, this warning by Chief Houren is given. The insertion of a penny in the fuse, prevents the fuse blowing out in the event of an overcharge of cur- | penny and thus force the overcharge es . : C5 {from lightning or any extra heavy I'he former practice, pertaming to! pennies and the bank, 1s time-tried | voltage on into the house.
