August 14, 1926 WINNETKA TALK zia Bori will be heard as Salud, the gypsy girl, a part which presents this artist as an unusual actress as well as a brilliant singer. Her characterization is without doubt one of the greatest contributions ever made by any opera star to the impersonations of the lyric stage, for in it Mme. Bori has the opportunity not only to sing her native tongue, but to depict a type with which she is thoroughly famil- | iar. Opposite Mme. Bori is Jose Mo- jia, who is likewise Spanish and who enters entirely into the spirit of his | role. Mme. Bourskaya will be heard in a detailed character part as will Louis D'Angelo. Others in the cast are Mr. Defrere, Mr. Ananian and Mr. Derman. The ballet which is a feature of this work will be headed by Ruth Page. Mr. Hasselmans will conduct. "Aida" Next Tuesday "Aida," which is always a favorite with all opera audiences, will be given on Tuesday night, August 17, with Elisabeth Rethgerg in the title role and Giovanni Martinelli as Radames. Marlo Basiola is to be heard as Amon- asro, one of the great baritone roles of opera; Leon Rothier will be Ram- fis, the high priest and Louis D'An- gelo the King. Mme. Bourskaya will have limitless chance for both singing and acting as Amneris. Mr. Papi will conduct. Massenet"s "Manon," one of the finest exemplifications of the French composition, will be the | | offering on Wednesday night, August 18, with Lucrezia Bori again in the | title role. This part demands unusual | singing and acting, and Mme. Bori | has fully demonstrated her ideal fit- ness for the role. Mario Chamlee | will appear opposite her as the young | DesGrieux, in which his beautiful [lyric singing has captivated his audi- ences. Leon Rothier will be cast to | excellent advantage as the elder De- Grieux. Others in the cast are Mar- gery Maxwell, Ada Paggi; Philine | Falco, Desire Defrere, Louis D'Angelo, Jose Mojia, Paolo Ananian, Louis Derman, Carlo Coscia, and Virgilia | Grassi.
