August 14, 1926 WINNETKA TALK Complete Razing of Old Village Hall This Week Work on the new fire station is pro- gressing according to schedule and the wrecking of the building to the neces- sary extent has been completed, ac- cording to an announcement by Vil- liage Manager H. IL. Woolhiser this week. The construction work is now starting and is expected to go forward quickly. The contractor in charge of the work reports that there is still a quantity of wood suitable for kindling which residents may have if they care to call for it. There is also a quantity of old plaster and broken bricks which which can be used for filling purposes which will be given away and some face brick in good condition which is for sale. During the building of the new sta- tion the firemen are housed in a tem- porary structure to the east of the station. The byilding is to be com- pleted before the coming of winter to house the new fire truck which has been ordered and will be delivered soon. Mrs. E. Mansfield-Jones, 878 Tower road, has been in Europe for several months, and will return about October 1. She has been accompanying her son, Greayer Mansfield-Jones, who is studying to be a sculptor. They have traveled through France, Austria, and are in Italy at present. They plan to spend two weeks on the Isle of Wight. --O-- Mrs. Percy Skillin and her two sons, Edward and David, of the Indian Hill apartments, together with a friend trom Chicago, left Thursday by motor for Eagle River, Wis., where they will spend three weeks. Entertains Tri-Delts J at Luncheon Wednesday Mrs. Ernest C. Davies, 206 Sheridan road, entertained the Evanston Alli- ance of the Delta Delta Delta sorority of Northwestern university, at a luncheon in her home, Wednesday, August 11. Former students and alumnae of Northwestern university who were Tri- Delts have formed the Evanston Alli- ance, and are raising money to fur- nish their $60,000 fraternity house. The Alliance meets once a month for the purpose of raising the money to further the cause of furnishing the hause, Which will accommodate twenty- four girls when completed. Word has been received of the death of General Edwin F. Glenn, 69 U. S. A., retired, West Point graduate, of Mentor, O. General Glenn was a cousin of Mrs. Edgar Foster Alden, 352 Linden avenue, Winnetka. General Glenn was the first Ameri- can general to order his officers to wear Sam Brown 'belts during the war. He was born at Greensboro, S. C.. and graduated from West Point in 1877. His death was caused by a heart stroke. pe Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Welsh, 791 Foxdale avenue, announce the birth of a dauchter, on Friday, August 6, at the Evanston hospital. Mrs. Welsh was formerly Miss Fanita Ferris. es Mr. and Mrs. Thomas H. Ratcliffe left August 4 for Estes Park, Col. Their daughter, Miss Vivian Ratcliffe, recently returned from Washington, D.
