In 1925 there were seventy-nine fatalities, and in the same period of 1926 the fatal ac- cidents were cut to sixty-eight. Superintendent of Chicago schools William McAndrew ascribes this re- duction in accidents to the work of the school boys patrol, and to the sys- tematic safety instruction that has been carried on in the schools in an intensive manner during the past year. Each class room in the public schools of Chicago is supplied with a poster depicting some phase of the accident problem as it applies to children. These posters, which are supplied by the Chicago Motor club, are changed from month to month, and every Friday afternoon the teachers lecture the children on a safety theme based on the subject matter of the poster. This work is also carried on in most of the public and parochial schools in northern Illinois and northern Indiana. Mrs. Carroll Dean Murphy, 875 Hill road, has as her guests this week, her mother, Mrs. M. W. Stokes, of Des Moines, Iowa, her sister-in-law, Mrs. Homer I. FUNDS AID SCHOOL Hold Tag Day September 13 for Chi- cago Junior School for Boys from Broken Homes Chicago Junior school, located one mile north of Elgin and covering one hundred acres of beautiful country overlooking the Fox river, is the scene of many happy activities these summer days when the more than fifty boys from broken homes, who make their home at the school, are en- gaged in all sorts of seasonable sports, under the leadership of a competent director. At a recent drive held for the bene- fit of this school, the sum of $35,000 was raised toward the furnishing of more commodious quarters for the boys, and it is hoped that before long it will be possible to include accom- modations for girls from broken homes, as well, and in this way do away with the necessity of the further separation of families. Chicago Junior school. is gathering its forces together at this time for ac- tive participation in the annual official Tag day which will be held Monday, September 13. » Several organizations, known as | Branches of Friends of Chicago Jun- jor school, have already been estab- lished in Chicago, the north shore (headquarters at Evanston) and Oak Park and these organizations are hard at work on plans for fall and winter which will mean much in the way of financial assistance for the furtherance of this splendid and worthwhile cause. The North End branch, which is the largest--numbering two hundred--will celebrate its first anniversary Septem- ber 21, at the Sovereign hotel, where its regular monthly meetings are held. The many social activities which the program committee of this branch has planned for the coming season will help materially to increase the build- ing fund and thereby make it possible to build two new cottages on the school grounds,--an additional one for boys and the other for girls. A fall rummage sale is also one of the plans of the North End branch for the purpose of contributing to the building fund. Indian Hill Lassie Is Medalist in Golf Play Helen MacMorran, 15 year old daughter of Jack MacMorran, Indian Hill Golf club professional, qualified as medalist in the qualifying round of golf tournament at Westmoreland, playing for the women's western junior title, this week.
