September 4, 1926 WINNETKA TALK Ex-Officers Pay Visit to Former Haunts at Fort In 1917 Ralph Snyder and the Rev. Thomas A. Goodwin were candidate officers in the Eighteenth company, Second Officers' Training camp at Ft. Sheridan. The Eighteenth company Hawthorn School to Open on Monday, September 13 The Hawthorn school, Hazel and Greenleaf avenues, Glencoe, will open its sixth year Monday, September 13. Miss Susan Dickinson Stone, principal, returned last week from a summer spent in Europe, where she visited schools which are doing progressive has maintained an organization and several times a year, as many as can, assemble to renew friendships. Myron E. Adams who was morale officer of the camp, is an honorary member of the company. [Last Sunday twelve members of the company, some with their wives, at- tended the morning worship of the Winnetka Congregational church, and afterwards drove up to Ft. Sheridan, where they ate lunch together (all agreeing that army mess has greatly improved since 1917) and then walked around over the grounds, renewing memories of nine years ago. They found the trenches they had helped die, partly caved in and over- grown with weeds and underbrush, and most of the barracks torn down. But in the Citizens' Military Training camp there were signs of activity and order. Miss Bernice Hubsch, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Hubsch, 1072 Spruce street, Winnetka, Miss Mary Jarvis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Jarvis, 623 Lake avenue, Wilmette, and Miss Mary Edith Stahl of Chicago, have been spending three months traveling abroad. They sailed Au- gust 27 from Liverpool on the steam- ship, Montroyal, and will arrive in Quebec, where they plan to stay for a few days before returning home. -- Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert W. Kelly, Cum- nor road, Kenilworth, and their daugh- ter, Elizabeth, are at Leland, Mich, until the opening of school. work. Miss Stone will be at the school every day next week to confer with mothers who desire to enter their chil- dren for the fall term. Chamber of Commerce to Meet September 13 The regular monthly meeting of {Winnetka Chamber of Commerce will 'be held at Community House Monday evening, September 13. Dinner will be served at 6:45 o'clock. At this meeting announcement will be made of the results of Winnetka day. Hill, Hirsh and Gorney, radio entertainers at station WQJ will entertain. Jack Carpenter, brother of Mrs. Paul Kreger of Winnetka, has resigned his position at the Post Office and is now traveling in the West with the Tom Brown Brothers. VISITS IN ROCK ISLAND Mrs. Paul Reschke of 1149 Cherry street returned Tuesday from a two weeks' visit with Mr. and Mrs. Louis Reschke of Rock Island. Paul Kreger of Winnetka, artist, has been selected as one of the judges for "Miss America." Accompanied by his wife, he will leave for Atlantic City Monday, September 6. el ul Dr. and Mrs. Donald M.
